Scraping Therapy for Localized Obesity: Effects and Mechanism

January 10, 2024

One of the reasons for human obesity is a good appetite, large food intake, and high absorption, while having low physical activity.

Another reason is spleen deficiency, which weakens the digestive function and results in a low metabolism and the accumulation of dampness and phlegm (referring to excess water and fat), leading to obesity.

For those with spleen deficiency, regularly practicing scraping therapy can prevent and treat obesity. Consistently scraping the areas of obesity has a weight loss effect for various causes of local obesity.

Localized Obesity: Directly scraping the areas of obesity should apply pressure to the subcutaneous tissue, promoting passive movement, which helps enhance metabolism, eliminate local water and fat, and achieve weight loss.

Effects and Mechanism: The process of water and dampness metabolism in the body involves the lungs, spleen, and kidneys. Scraping the related acupoints of the bladder meridian on the back, such as Shu points of the lungs, spleen, and kidneys, as well as Ren meridian acupoints such as Shanzhong, Zhongwan, Guanyuan, and Fenglong, can strengthen the spleen and kidney, promote phlegm elimination, boost qi and blood circulation, and regulate endocrine function, thereby eliminating excess water and fat in the body and achieving weight loss.

Methods and Steps:

When scraping for weight loss, the force should be moderate, and it can be done 1 to 2 times a day. If the force is strong and the scraping time is long, scraping lubricants must be applied to protect the skin.

Back: Bladder Meridian - bilateral lung shu points, spleen shu points, kidney shu points.

Chest and abdomen: Ren Meridian - Shanzhong, Zhongwan, Guanyuan.

Upper limbs: Lung Meridian - bilateral Kongzui and Lieque.

Large Intestine Meridian - bilateral Quchi.

Lower limbs: Stomach Meridian - bilateral Fenglong. Spleen Meridian - bilateral Sanyinjiao.
