October 19, 2023

Nowadays, there is an increasing trend towards healthy and natural beauty, so many people have joined the fitness movement. Many men also enjoy showcasing their perfect physique, and they take pride in having six-pack abs. How can one achieve six-pack abs? Can push-ups help in building abs?

Can Push-ups Help in Building Abs?

Push-ups can indeed help in building abs.

Push-ups are a strength exercise that engages various muscles in the body, including the arms, chest, abs, glutes, and legs. As a result, the abdominal muscles are constantly engaged and tensed during push-ups. Regularly performing push-ups with sufficient intensity can lead to the development of the abs. Therefore, push-ups can help men in building abs.

How Often Should One Do Push-ups to Build Abs?

In order to develop abs, it is best to do push-ups every two or three days. This is because muscles need rest and recovery in order to grow. When performing push-ups, the muscle fibers in the body undergo micro-tears, and muscle growth is based on the repair and strengthening of these micro-tears. However, repair and strengthening require time, so allowing a gap of two to three days between push-up sessions is beneficial for muscle recovery. Each session can consist of 3-5 sets, with 15-40 repetitions per set.

How Long Does it Take to Build Abs with Push-ups?

To enhance the effectiveness of ab training, one can add 5-10 sit-ups during push-ups. This will yield better results. It is also advisable to increase the intensity of push-ups, as higher intensity leads to thicker muscle fibers. With consistent practice over the course of a month, some visible results should be noticeable.

Methods for Building Abs with Push-ups

1. Use both hands and toes as support points, with the hands shoulder-width apart. Maintain a straight line with the head, back, and legs. Then, perform a bending movement at the elbows to perform the push-up. Throughout the exercise, ensure that the head, back, and legs remain in a straight line. This method not only exercises the chest muscles but also engages the triceps and abdominal muscles.

2. Use both hands and toes as support points, and mimic a crawling motion. Extend the left leg forward until the left knee touches the left hand elbow. Then, move the left hand to the right by about one step's distance. Extend the right leg forward until the right knee touches the right hand elbow. Repeat this motion.

3. This type of push-up is similar to the motion of a frog jump. Maintain a straight line with both hands and feet on the ground, and bend the elbows to lower the body. After reaching the lowest point, push the body back up.
