Breaststroke butt always float on the water

May 11, 2023
There are many swimmers who find that their hips always float on the water when they are training for breaststroke, what is the reason for this? How should we avoid it?

Reasons for the buttocks floating up

When closing the legs, the thighs knees sink, the knees are closed towards the abdomen, and the waist is bent to do the action of closing the legs, so the hips will rise up. The waist is basically motionless during the whole action cycle of breaststroke, that is to say, the waist should be straight, that is, the feeling of the stomach convex forward, and the body above the hips basically does not move when collecting the legs, just bending the legs. The whole person from head to tail in the water is oblique down, slightly curved thighs, calves up, feet close to the surface of the water.

Pay attention to body posture

When swimming breaststroke, the body is flat on the water surface, about 5-10 degree angle with the horizontal surface, the face is not in the water, so that the upper edge of the forehead is flush with the horizontal surface, and the eyes are looking forward. When changing air, the body will undulate, so that the body angle increases, but it should be noted that the amplitude is not too large, so as not to increase the cross-sectional area of the body, resulting in three major resistances, such as frontal resistance, skin friction resistance and vortex resistance, which are much larger than other positions.

Pay attention to the movement of the legs

Breaststroke leg action is the main driving force of propulsion, and the leg is mainly to maintain the body balance and propulsion to enhance. The action of legs can be divided into three stages: leg collection, leg turning and leg clamping, which are closely related to each other and cannot have pauses. After the completion of the leg clamping action, the body is into a gliding position, the whole body straight with a "floating" feeling, this gliding can reduce the resistance of the water, but also reduce physical expenditure.

Pay attention to the arm action

The stroke arm and leg action of the swim, always in the water, which is different from other strokes Although the forward propulsion, mainly from the action of the legs, but good and correct action, its value should not be ignored. Its stroke trajectory is short, so the propulsive force is small, and both arms form a bicentric stroke track in the water. Immediately after rowing forward, resistance can be reduced to a minimum.

Pay attention to breathing

1. Keep your whole body in a straight position, muscles relaxed and eyes looking down in front. 2. At the beginning of the arm stroke, slowly tilt your head upward while slowly exhaling through the water with your mouth or nose or mouth and nose at the same time. 3. When the palms of the hands from the outer lane before the chest paddling action is almost complete, the water wave impact on the chest, so that the body with the wave up, when a strong end to the exhalation action. 4. Arm paddling end, complete the inhalation action, and then the arm forward flat, when the knee began to bend, while the leg collection action began. 5. The palms of the feet back to pinch the legs when closed, until the next paddling arm action begins, do not have a little exhale action.

Pay attention to the joint action

1. The joint action of breaststroke starts with the whole body straightened into a horizontal position, and when the palms of the hands start to grab the water and stroke to the outside, the exhalation begins. 2. Both arms continue to stroke to the side, elbows begin to bend, head begins to lift slightly upward, and large arms also begin to turn back, and when palms are separated to the maximum, elbows bend and maintain a high elbow position. 3. As the neck continues to extend and the head continues to lift upward until the mouth is exposed horizontally, the final movement ends and the arms begin to retract inward, ending the final effective phase of the arm stroke. 4. When the arms complete the stroke action and are ready to reach forward, complete the inhalation action and the knees begin to bend while also beginning the leg retraction action. 5. Inhale action completed, head down into the water, legs continue to retract, and make the palms of the feet up close to the hips, while the palms of the hands forward. 6. When the legs backward began to clip the water, the two arms also almost complete the action of forward extension. 7. The palms of the feet are clamped outward, backward and inward to the legs, and closed until the next paddling action. 8. Complete the leg clamping action, relax the body into a horizontal position, and maintain a short glide.
