Choosing the Right Porridge for Gastric Ulcers: A Nutritional Approach

So what kind of porridge should gastric ulcer patients drink to better protect and nourish the stomach, and prevent and treat ulcers?

Bai Cao Shuang Soybean Paste

Ingredients: 10 grams of Bai Cao Shuang, 50 grams of roasted soybean flour, and an appropriate amount of sugar.

Instructions: Put Bai Cao Shuang in a pot, add soybean flour and mix well. Cook the mixture with an appropriate amount of water to make a paste. Add sugar and mix well.

Benefits: It has the effect of promoting digestion, stopping diarrhea, and stopping bleeding. It is suitable for patients with gastric ulcers accompanied by bleeding.

Watercress Porridge

Ingredients: 200 grams of watercress, 100 grams of glutinous rice, and an appropriate amount of rock sugar.

Instructions: Wash the watercress and blanch it in boiling water for a moment, then drain the water. Rinse the glutinous rice and put it in a pot with 1500 milliliters of water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer until the rice becomes porridge. Add the vegetables and rock sugar, and cook for a moment.

Coix Seed and Euryale Ferox Porridge

Ingredients: 30 grams of coix seed, 30 grams of euryale ferox, 50 grams of glutinous rice, and an appropriate amount of brown sugar.

Instructions: Wash the coix seed, euryale ferox, and glutinous rice, and soak them in water. Put the coix seed and euryale ferox in a pot, add an appropriate amount of water, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer until they are eighty percent cooked. Add the glutinous rice and cook until it becomes porridge. Add brown sugar to taste.

Benefits: It has the effect of nourishing the spleen, invigorating the stomach, clearing heat, and stopping diarrhea. It is suitable for patients with gastric ulcers.

Liangjiang Porridge

Ingredients: 15 grams of liangjiang, 100 grams of white rice, and 2000 milliliters of water.

Instructions: Wash the liangjiang and add it to 2000 milliliters of water. Boil until the volume reduces to 1500 milliliters. Strain out the residue and add the white rice to cook until it becomes a thin porridge.

Benefits: Liangjiang has the effect of dispelling cold and warming the stomach. It is suitable for relieving the pain and discomfort caused by gastric ulcer attacks due to stomach cold.

Milk and Egg Barley Porridge

Ingredients: 400 grams of barley, 100 grams of milk, and 1 egg.

Instructions: Cook the above ingredients together and make porridge. Warm and consume it for breakfast and dinner.

Benefits: It has the effect of invigorating the spleen and replenishing qi. It is suitable for patients with gastric ulcers who have repeated attacks, leading to poor appetite, physical weakness, or elderly patients. Barley contains gastric mucosal glycoproteins that protect the gastric mucosa and has anti-ulcer effects, making it suitable for ulcer patients to consume.

Egg and Milk Lotus Root Porridge

Ingredients: Fresh lotus root, an appropriate amount, 50 grams of glutinous rice, 1 egg, and an appropriate amount of milk.

Instructions: Wash the lotus root, cut it into slices, and cook it into a thin porridge. Add the egg and milk and stir until cooked. Eat it once in the morning and once in the evening.

Benefits: It is suitable for patients with blood stasis type ulcers. The symptoms include fixed and stabbing pain in the stomach, and resistance to pressure. Lotus root can dispel blood stasis and clear pathogenic heat. When combined with eggs, milk, and glutinous rice, it can nourish yin, clear heat, and promote the healing of ulcers by promoting gastrointestinal motility.
