Navigating Menopause: Dietary Therapies for Symptom Relief

Menopause is a very difficult period for many women. With the decline in ovarian function and hormonal imbalance, menopausal women's bodies age rapidly and their temper becomes unusually irritable. In fact, there is no need to panic during menopause. By eating more foods that relieve menopause symptoms and relaxing the mind, menopause can be safely navigated. Below, I will recommend several dietary therapies to treat menopausal syndrome.


Herbal Recipe 1: Jujube and Tremella Soup

Ingredients: 60g jujubes, 20g tremella, appropriate amount of rock sugar.

Method: Wash the jujubes, remove the pits, and soak the tremella in warm water to remove impurities. Add water to a pot, put in the jujubes, bring to a boil over high heat, remove the foam on the surface, then simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. Herbal Recipe 2: Lily and Jujube Kernel Soup

Ingredients: 50g fresh lily, 15g jujube kernel.

Method: Soak the lily in water for a day and night, then decoct the jujube kernel in water to extract the juice, and add the lily to cook. Drink the soup and eat the lily once a day.

Effect: Nourishes yin, clears heat, calms the mind, and soothes the spirit.

Herbal Recipe 3: Wheat, Astragalus, and Jujube Porridge

Ingredients: 100g wheat, 20g astragalus, 20g polygonum multiflorum vine, 10g acanthopanax, 10g mulberry leaf, 10g angelica, 5g notoginseng, 10 jujubes, appropriate amount of rock sugar.

Method: Put the 6 herbs in a clay pot and decoct them to make a medicinal juice. After decoction, pour out about a bowl of juice. Then, add water to the pot, put in the cleaned wheat and jujubes, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer on low heat to make porridge. When the porridge is cooked, pour in the medicinal juice, simmer for a while, and add rock sugar. Take the porridge morning and evening.

Effect: Effectively relieves symptoms such as insomnia, low mood, and neurasthenia during menopause.


Herbal Recipe 4: Solomon's Seal and Pig Heart Stew

Ingredients: 100g Solomon's seal, 500g pig heart, 5g Shaoxing wine, ginger, scallion, Sichuan peppercorn, salt, MSG each 5g, 2500ml broth.

Method: Remove impurities from the Solomon's seal. Cut it into sections and soak in water. Wash the pig heart, blanch it in boiling water to remove blood, then cut it into thin slices and marinate with the seasonings. Put the pot on high heat, boil for 20 minutes, then add the pig heart slices and seasonings, and simmer over low heat until the pig heart is tender.

Effect: Calms the mind, nourishes yin, and regulates rhythm. Suitable for symptoms such as cough, irritability, thirst, and menopausal syndrome caused by yin deficiency and fever.

Herbal Recipe 5: Goji Berry and Chrysanthemum Tea

Ingredients: 10g goji berries, 2g chrysanthemum, 2g longevity tea, 2g hawthorn.

Method: Put the four ingredients in a large teacup, brew with boiling water, cover and steep for 15 minutes. Drink daily, but drink slowly. It can be brewed three times.

Effect: Often used to improve symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, dizziness, insomnia, irritability, and heat and thirst during menopause.

Herbal Recipe 6: Polygala and Lotus Powder Porridge

Ingredients: 30g polygala, 15g lotus seeds, 50g glutinous rice.

Method: Soak the polygala and lotus seeds to remove the skins and grind them into powder. Cook the glutinous rice porridge first, and when it is cooked, add the polygala and lotus seed powder and boil for a while. Consume as desired.
