Precautions for liposuction and weight loss

September 10, 2023
Although liposuction is fast-acting, there are certain risks and side effects, so there are many things to pay attention to before and after the surgery.

What to pay attention to before liposuction

Body check before liposuction

A health check must be done before performing liposuction surgery to ensure that there is no heart disease, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high blood cholesterol, clotting disorders, etc. In the case of hypertension, for example, the adrenal hormones injected during surgical anesthesia can easily cause an increase in blood pressure, so it is dangerous for people with hypertension to have liposuction. It is necessary to cure the disease before considering liposuction.

Whether the age limit has been reached

Liposuction can only be done when the number of fat cells is constant in adulthood, and generally the best results are achieved at the age of 18-55. 18 years old and younger are still developing and not fully shaped, so liposuction cannot achieve a good shaping effect and has a big impact on health. Too old skin has lost its elasticity, it is difficult to recover after doing liposuction, and it is easy to have loose skin, which also affects the weight loss effect.

Women avoid special physiological periods

Women are not suitable for liposuction during menstruation, pregnancy and breastfeeding, as they are more sensitive to body fat during menstruation and their resistance is reduced, making them more prone to infection.

Determine the area to be liposuctioned and the quality of liposuction

Before liposuction, you should consult your doctor to determine the area to be liposuctioned and the amount of liposuction to be done. The doctor will determine the amount of liposuction according to your height and weight, which is usually 2000-3000 ml. For heavier weight, it can be relaxed to 4000 ml. 5000 ml is the safe limit.

What to pay attention to after liposuction

Pay attention to prevent wound infection after liposuction

After surgery, routine wound treatment will be performed and some antibacterial agents will be taken orally to prevent infection. Due to some swelling fluid remaining under the skin, there may be more oozing fluid on the day after liposuction surgery. If the dressing is permeated, you can use sterile gauze or clean sanitary napkin on top of the dressing. Do not open the dressing by yourself to avoid contaminating the wound or improperly wrapping it to affect plasticity. The wound site should not be exposed to water for 7 days after surgery.

Pay attention to diet after liposuction

Avoid spicy, hairy, seafood, tobacco and alcohol for 1 month after liposuction. Before the removal of the stitches, try not to take a bath, after the removal of the stitches, you can take a shower or barrel bath, and also local massage to facilitate the softening of the skin.

Avoid strong exercise after liposuction

Bed rest is required for 24 hours after surgery, sports should not be performed within 7 days, and strenuous exercise should not be performed within one month. Especially for people who have liposuction on a large area of the lower limbs, try not to walk or stand for a long time, and try to elevate the lower limbs to help reduce swelling. For tummy tuck, you should avoid bending and sitting for a long time, and try to straighten up when sitting down to avoid wrinkling of the abdominal skin. For upper arm liposuction, avoid frequent flexion and extension of the elbow joint to prevent fluid accumulation. In the early stage of activity, bed rest is not necessary. However, brain workers and light manual workers can work and study normally, while heavy manual workers should pay attention to reduce the weight to avoid overexertion.

Wearing shapewear immediately after surgery

Wearing shapewear after liposuction surgery can reduce hematoma and help shape the body. For those who have slight unevenness of the skin, wearing shapewear can also help to adjust the shape.

Avoid sun exposure

It is important to avoid sun exposure for 1 month after surgery because sunlight can delay wound healing and normal pigmentation recovery. Sunbathing should only be allowed 6 weeks after surgery and care must be taken to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
