Supermarket Secrets: Foods You Should Never Buy

December 23, 2023

Modern people live a fast-paced life, and because supermarkets have a wide range of products and a clean environment, most people choose to do one-stop shopping at supermarkets for everything from daily necessities to food. But do you know that there are some foods that you should never buy at the supermarket?

1. Ground Meat

When we make dumplings or meatballs, we need a lot of ground meat. In the past, we had to use two knives to chop a piece of meat continuously, but now supermarkets have saved us a lot of effort by providing pre-chopped ground meat. We think that ground meat is made from high-quality meat, but actually it is made by mixing and grinding various types of minced meat. Not to mention that the main component is fat, just the hygiene conditions will make you feel dirty. During the grinding process, the minced meat not only contains dust from the processing plant, but also pig hair, and so on. However, when they are mixed together and crushed, we cannot tell them apart when we buy them.

2. Antibiotic-treated Beef

Beef is definitely our favorite meat, and it's so satisfying to eat a beef burger. However, unfortunately, we learned from the 2010 report of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that cattle are fed with large amounts of antibiotics and deworming drugs during the breeding process. If these drugs remain in the body of the cattle and are not completely decomposed, they will enter our bodies when we consume the meat, causing damage to the kidneys and nervous system.

3. Oatmeal Containing Heavy Metals

In recent years, oatmeal has become a "health product" in people's minds under the promotion of nutritionists. But the instant oatmeal sold in supermarkets is not only not beneficial to us, but also harmful. Instant oatmeal is generally very sweet, so it inevitably has high calories. If it were just that, it would be fine, but investigations have shown that the high fructose corn syrup that makes instant oatmeal taste sweet contains excessive amounts of heavy metal mercury.

4. Frozen Shrimp

Do you think you have really bought fresh shrimp? In fact, you don't know that it has been in the freezer for almost half a year, and it has been treated with various chemicals and antibiotics before freezing, so it won't rot at all. It's like making a specimen. Even if it is left for a year, it will still look the same. The quarantine department has also found pesticide residues on frozen shrimp, making it completely unclean.

5. Packaged Fresh Pork

Is there a problem with the pork in the supermarket? Maybe, and the problem is not small. According to a survey conducted by Iowa State University in the United States in 2012, due to the excessive use of antibiotics in the breeding process of pigs, the problem of antibiotic residues is quite serious, leading to an increasing frequency of the appearance of superbug MRSA. The mortality rate of this bacteria has already surpassed that of AIDS.

6. Canned Food

Canned products have always been considered the most hygienic food, after all, the pasteurization used in cans is the best sterilization method now. However, the packaging of canned products has become the biggest problem, because the packaging contains bisphenol A, which will dissolve into the food. You may not be familiar with bisphenol A, but I'll tell you, if you consume it, it will cause abnormal development of the reproductive system, disorder of insulin secretion leading to diabetes, and even cardiovascular diseases. So it's better to avoid it when you see it.

7. Roasted Turkey

The essential food for Christmas unfortunately makes the list. According to researchers, when they conducted random sampling of roasted turkeys, they were shocked because almost 80% of the roasted turkeys were like soaking in MRSA, the bacteria content was extremely high. This is also one of the reasons why hospitals are overcrowded after Christmas.

8. Pre-cut Fruits with "Suspicious Origins"

You can buy as much as you want of packaged and pre-cut fruits, which seems very convenient for consumers, but their origins are suspicious. Supermarkets have a large amount of fruits that cannot be sold every day due to appearance or spoilage issues. The usual practice is to divide them and sell them in packages.

9. Refrigerated Fruits

Maybe refrigerated fruits are no different from fresh fruits, but the results of their quality inspections are very poor, because they tend to mold! Don't think that they won't spoil when placed in low temperatures, in fact, they have bred a lot of bacteria. If people consume them unknowingly, it can easily cause food poisoning.

After reading this, do you realize that you have bought all of these foods? So, for the sake of your own and your family's health, remember not to buy these foods easily and let yourself and your family eat healthily.
