Massage Techniques for Neck, Chest, Abdomen, and Back: Promoting Health and Well-being

1. Health Benefits

Neck massage can relieve neck muscle fatigue and tension, and can be used for the prevention and treatment of cervical spondylosis and stiff neck; chest massage can open the chest, regulate qi, invigorate the spleen and stomach, and can be used for the prevention and treatment of chest tightness, chest pain, restlessness, stomach pain, and indigestion; waist massage can strengthen the lower back and nourish the kidneys, and can be used for the prevention and treatment of lower back pain, weak lower back, and impotence.

2. Operating Methods

(1) Neck

Step 1: Use the index finger, middle finger, and ring finger to pinch and knead the opposite sternocleidomastoid and pectoralis major muscles from the back hairline and the side of the ear, moving downward. Alternate between left and right sides for 20 times each.

Step 2: Use the fingertip of the middle finger to rub and press the opposite Fengchi acupoint and knead and press the sides of the neck. Alternate between left and right sides for 2-3 minutes each.

Step 3: Rub the back of the neck with both palms alternately, until a warm sensation is felt.

Step 4: Perform active flexion, extension, and lateral flexion movements of the neck 10 times each.

(2) Chest

Place the four fingers of the left hand together with the palm root placed on the upper middle part of the sternum, and place the thumb of the left hand on the upper right clavicle. Rub back and forth along the left horizontal line until reaching the level above the nipple, repeat 20-30 times, and alternate between left and right sides.

(3) Abdomen

Step 1: Use the fingertip of the thumb to slowly push down from the Jiuwei acupoint along the Ren meridian to the Quqin acupoint.

Step 2: Place the palm on the Zhongwan acupoint and massage counterclockwise for 50 times, then switch to the right hand and massage clockwise for 50-100 times, until a warm sensation is felt in the abdomen. Rub the Tianshu and Qihai acupoints with both thumbs for 30-50 times each.

(4) Back and Waist

Step 1: Use the thumb joint of the thumb and palm to press tightly on the depression of the waist, and rotate and knead forcefully for 5-10 minutes.

Step 2: Place both hands on the waist, separate the feet, and bend the body forward and backward about 40 times, then rotate the body, rotating left and right for 30-50 times each.
