[Understanding the Connection Between Shaking Legs and Kidney Health]

February 15, 2024

  In life, we often see some people who like to "shake their legs" for no reason. It seems that shaking their legs can alleviate boredom, irritability, nervousness, and anxiety. But is this really the case?

  [Shaking legs in men has nothing to do with kidney deficiency]

  The kidneys belong to water, and the liver belongs to wood. Water produces wood. Therefore, if a person's kidney essence is insufficient, the liver essence will definitely be affected. When the liver wind is agitated, people are prone to shaking. This theory seems to be very reasonable, but there is currently no scientific evidence to support the relationship between shaking legs and kidney deficiency. Therefore, the claim that shaking legs is due to kidney deficiency has no scientific basis.

  [Symptoms of kidney deficiency]

  1. Lack of energy. When kidney function is poor, many waste products are difficult to excrete from the urine, resulting in feelings of mental fatigue, tiredness, and weakness. If the kidneys are diseased, proteins and other nutrients may leak from the kidneys and be excreted in the urine, also leading to a lack of energy. Some patients may mistakenly think that they are overworked or for other reasons, and ignore the kidney problems.

  2. Loss of appetite. Loss of appetite, aversion to food, and even nausea and vomiting are common symptoms of kidney disease. Some patients always go to the digestive or liver disease department first, to see if they have stomach or liver disease. If there is no stomach or liver disease, they will neglect to see a kidney doctor and thus delay the condition.

  3. Foamy urine. There are many reasons for foamy urine, and if proteins leak from the kidneys into the urine, the urine will become foamy.

  4. Back pain. The kidneys are located on both sides of the spine in the lower back, so when the kidneys are diseased, back pain may be felt.

  5. Anemia. Anemic patients often go to the hematology department for anemia. In fact, in addition to the function of excreting waste products, the kidneys also have endocrine function and secrete hematopoietic hormones. When kidney function is impaired, anemia can also occur.

  [Men who want to strengthen their kidneys, learn these 6 movements]

  1. Rub your palms until they are warm, then place them on your waist and massage up and down until you feel the heat. Do this massage twice a day, in the morning and evening, about 200 times each time. This can warm and nourish the kidney and enhance Qi intake.

  2. First, clench your fists, then use the protruding part of the joints of the thumbs of both hands to massage the Yaoyan acupoint (located on the waist) in a circular motion inward, gradually press with force until you feel soreness and swelling. This massage should last for about 10 minutes, and should be done once in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

  3. Use both hands to sweep the ears from the back to the front, and you will hear a "cracking" sound. Do this 20 times each time, several times a day. As long as you persist for a long time, it will strengthen the kidneys and improve health.

  4. Hook the thumb in the palm, with the fingertips at the base of the little finger, then bend the other four fingers slightly and hold the thumb firmly. When lifting the foot, the toes should grip the ground, the legs should be close together, raise the buttocks and tighten the abdomen, and let the shoulders sink down;

  the heels should touch the ground first, without bending the knees. Sit on the edge of the bed with your legs together, rub the palms of both hands until they are warm, and press them on the lower back, massaging the waist and back kidney acupoints up and down until you feel the heat.

  5. Pinch and rub the tip of the ear canal with the thumb and index finger of both hands, lift, twist, knead, and rub it 15-20 times until the area becomes warm and red. This method has the effects of calming, relieving pain, clearing the mind, reducing fever, anti-allergy, and nourishing the kidneys. It can prevent and treat hypertension, insomnia, pharyngitis, and skin diseases.

  6. Keeping the feet warm is a way to nourish the kidneys. This is because the kidney meridians start from the soles of the feet, and the feet are easily affected by cold. Therefore, special attention should be paid to keeping the feet warm, such as not facing the air conditioner or fan with bare feet when sleeping, and not walking barefoot in damp places for a long time. There are many acupoints on the soles of the feet, such as the Yongquan acupoint. The kidneys originate from the Yongquan, and the Yongquan is the sole of the foot. Before going to bed every night, you can massage the Yongquan acupoint on the soles of the feet, which can nourish the kidneys and strengthen essence.
