The Drawbacks of Holding in Urine for Men: Health Risks and Consequences

February 2, 2024

People have three urgent needs, one of which is the need to urinate. Urgent urination, frequent urination, and incomplete urination are all very uncomfortable, let alone holding in urine for a long time. Holding in urine for a long time can lead to problems. Here, I will list the drawbacks of holding in urine:

Drawbacks of Holding in Urine for Men

1. Cystitis

Men who frequently hold in urine are prone to cystitis. When holding in urine, the amount of urine in the bladder increases, which can irritate the bladder mucosa. In addition, the urine contains a large number of bacteria that cannot be expelled from the body in a timely manner, leading to continuous reproduction of bacteria and thus harming bladder health, resulting in cystitis.

2. Urinary Retention

Men who frequently hold in urine are prone to urinary retention. Holding in urine for a long time can cause excessive bladder distention, which weakens the bladder's ability to contract, resulting in difficulty urinating, known as urinary retention.

3. Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infection is also a common drawback of holding in urine for men. Holding in urine for a long time prevents bacteria in the urine from being expelled from the body in a timely manner, leading to inflammation of the urethra caused by these bacteria.

4. Aggravation of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Holding in urine for a long time can also aggravate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. For example, if a hypertensive patient holds in urine for a long time, their blood pressure will increase. Patients with coronary heart disease may experience aggravated symptoms of arrhythmia and angina.

5. Fainting

Men who hold in urine for a long time may experience fainting. This usually happens during urination because the sudden emptying of urine can lead to cerebral ischemia, resulting in fainting.

6. Prostatitis

Men who hold in urine for a long time may also develop prostatitis. Holding in urine for a long time can allow bacteria to enter the prostate, leading to prostatitis.

Foods Men Should Eat Less of for Good Health

1. Beer

It is common to see men with large bellies, and more than 70% of the reason is due to regular beer consumption, commonly known as beer belly. Do not simply think that long-term beer consumption only causes beer belly in men, as it can also cause infertility. Beer contains a chemical substance that limits the reproductive ability of sperm in men, ultimately reducing their fertility.

2. Pickles

Almost every household consumes pickled vegetables, which are convenient and have a unique taste. However, long-term consumption has many adverse effects on health. Pickled vegetables contain a considerable amount of nitrosamines, which is a common carcinogen. Pickled vegetables themselves are high in salt content, and excessive consumption of salty food is one of the causes of high blood pressure. Eating too much can lead to diseases such as hypertension and kidney failure.

3. Fried and Barbecued Food

Many people believe that as long as they use safe and healthy oil, the fried food can be eaten without worry. However, this is a misconception. Even with good quality oil, the frying process involves the addition of a substance called hydrogen, which converts the oil into a solid state, resulting in trans fats. Men who consume fried foods containing these fats for a long time are prone to liver diseases such as fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease. In addition, barbecued food, which is popular among men, produces carcinogens after charcoal grilling, and long-term consumption increases the risk of cancer.

Reminder: Men should quit smoking and drinking and live a healthy life.
