Can Cold Therapy Help Men Live Longer?

There is a saying, "A young man sleeps on a cool bed, relying on strong fire." This saying is not without reason, as men do have a stronger "fire power" compared to women. For them, it is worth trying out the practice of "cold" therapy for better health and longevity.

Studies have found that men are more sensitive to heat, so men who prefer a cooler environment tend to live longer. On the other hand, women are more sensitive to cold, so women who prefer a warmer environment tend to live longer. It seems that the key to longevity for men is to embrace the cold. So what are the methods for men to practice cold therapy?

【Methods for Men to Practice Cold Therapy】

  1. Cool down the body

Men should avoid frequent hot baths or saunas. It is recommended to have a hot bath or sauna once a week, with a temperature between 37°C and 41°C, for a duration of 15-20 minutes. The total accumulated time should not exceed 30 minutes per week. Men who are trying to conceive should avoid hot baths or saunas for at least six months.

  2. Cool down the groin area

The scrotum of men plays a role in temperature regulation, acting like an "air conditioner" for the entire reproductive system. Habits such as prolonged cycling or driving, wearing tight jeans, placing laptops on the thighs, and sitting for long periods on a soft sofa can lead to the scrotum being surrounded and compressed, preventing it from regulating temperature properly. This can cause an increase in testicular temperature, leading to impaired reproductive function. Therefore, men should avoid wearing tight jeans and opt for comfortable, loose and breathable underwear. Taxi drivers and office workers should try to take breaks every 40 minutes and move around for 8-10 minutes.

  3. Cool down the diet

Men should adopt a low-calorie diet and reduce the intake of animal fats. For example, when consuming pork, it is recommended to limit the daily amount to two or three taels (about 75-112 grams). It is also beneficial to pair pork with legumes, as it can reduce cholesterol and fat particles.

  4. Cool down the temper

As men age, their physical functions decline while their temper tends to increase. It is important to learn how to regulate one's temper when feeling angry or upset. Listening to soothing music, tidying up the workspace, or taking a leisurely walk outdoors can help lower blood pressure and stabilize heart rate.
