Eating Habits and Their Impact on Longevity and Health

December 17, 2023

A university found in a study of 80-90 year olds that one of the common factors for their longevity is eating a hearty breakfast every day.

Skipping breakfast can make you "age faster"

Not eating breakfast not only damages the stomach, making it difficult to work energetically, but it can also make you "age faster". In a recent study of 7,000 men and women at a foreign university, it was found that those who skipped breakfast were not as likely to live long lives.

A hearty dinner leads to insomnia

In the evening, the insulin content in the blood reaches its peak for the day. Insulin can convert blood sugar into fat that accumulates on blood vessel walls and abdominal walls. Eating a heavy dinner over time can lead to obesity. Additionally, it can disrupt the body's normal circadian rhythm and make it easier for people to develop insomnia.

Excessive coffee consumption reduces fertility

People who drink a lot of coffee are more likely to have reduced fertility and are also prone to heart disease. Coffee contains high concentrations of caffeine, which can affect heart function. Moderate coffee consumption can have a stimulating effect, but those who drink more than 5 cups of coffee a day may experience decreased cognitive ability and find it difficult to complete complex tasks.

Smoking after meals is more harmful

Smoking after a meal allows more harmful substances from the cigarette to enter the body. The amount of toxins in a single cigarette can be greater than the total amount in 10 cigarettes smoked at other times.

Using a thermos to brew tea leads to vitamin loss

Tea contains a large amount of tannic acid, theophylline, tea aroma oil, and various vitamins. If tea leaves are soaked in hot water for a long time using a thermos, it can destroy the vitamins in the tea, cause the tea aroma oil to evaporate, and cause a significant amount of tannic acid and theophylline to be released. Therefore, if using a thermos to brew tea, it is more suitable to use water at around 80℃.

Eating exotic seafood at banquets can lead to infection

Salmon, geoduck clams, perch, blackfish, sashimi, snakes, turtles, crabs, etc. are common food choices at business banquets. The probability of parasitic infections and pathogenic bacteria is high, which can easily lead to various parasitic diseases when indulging in these delicacies.

Overeating fruit leads to nutritional imbalance

Many office workers have a sedentary work style, which can cause indigestion, increased blood lipids, hardening of the blood vessels, and increased cholesterol. They do need the nutrients and fiber in fruits to counteract these effects. However, fruits cannot be a substitute for staple foods because although they contain various vitamins and sugars, they lack the necessary proteins and certain trace elements that the body needs.

Eating too quickly leads to obesity

People who frequently eat out, due to the environment, often eat quickly. This not only increases the burden on the digestive system but also makes it easier to become obese.
