Psychological Factors and Obesity: The Key to Successful Weight Loss

It is generally believed that obesity is caused by overeating and lack of exercise, but little is known about the close relationship between psychological factors and obesity. Why is this? Psychological research suggests that obese people have a strong psychological inclination towards food, with a particular preference for eating. If they rely solely on dieting and exercise to lose weight, they will feel very painful and increase the feeling of "unbearable hunger", making it difficult to persevere and achieve the goal of weight loss. Moreover, in the long run, it will also affect physical health and work/study. Therefore, in order to achieve successful weight loss, the key lies in psychological adjustment, changing unhealthy eating habits and preferences, and fundamentally controlling the occurrence and development of obesity.

Psychological adjustment should mainly focus on the following two points: Firstly, internally, pay attention to relaxing emotions during meals. Many obese people have heavy psychological burdens and are always worried that they will gain weight if they don't handle their meals properly. This further increases the feeling of hunger, resulting in a vicious cycle. If they can let go of their worries and relax their tense emotions, they will find that they are not as hungry as they feel. Secondly, externally, pay attention to avoiding external environments that trigger food cravings. Once eating begins and a reasonable amount of food is consumed, consciously divert attention, leave the eating scene, and find other things to do. Do not continue eating, and avoid lingering.
