Preventing and Caring for Aging Eyes: Tips for Healthy and Youthful Eye Skin

November 28, 2023

The skin around the eyes is particularly delicate and thin, with many wrinkles, so the skin around the eyes evaporates moisture quickly. At the same time, the sweat and sebaceous glands in the eye area are less distributed, making it prone to dryness and dehydration. These factors determine that the eyes are the most prone to aging and problems. Generally, the skin around the eyes starts to decline after the age of 25, and problems such as dark circles, crow's feet, eye bags, granulation, and puffiness appear. Therefore, prevention and care are very important.

Eye care includes internal care, external care, and special care:

1. Internal care:

  (1) Get enough sleep and avoid staying up late. (2) Drink plenty of water during the day and avoid drinking a lot of water before bed. (3) Maintain a positive attitude, treat diseases in a timely manner, especially endocrine disorders. (4) Avoid direct sunlight. (5) Avoid squinting, blinking, and rubbing your eyes. Maintain healthy beauty.

2. External care:

  (1) Makeup removal and cleansing: Because the skin around the eyes is sensitive and delicate, it needs to be handled with extreme care during makeup removal. Use specialized eye makeup remover or makeup remover cream, and gently remove with a cotton pad.

  (2) Choose suitable eye care products: Currently available on the market are eye creams, eye gels, eye essences, and more. Eye creams are moisturizing and rich in nutrients, suitable for those with wrinkles around the eyes; eye gels are plant-based gel-like substances, with gentle and easily absorbed ingredients, suitable for dark circles, eye bags, etc. Eye essence is suitable for various situations. Generally, eye essence is applied first, followed by eye cream or eye gel. The amount used should be about the size of a mung bean, and it is best to apply it after applying a warm compress, and combine it with massage and pressure for better results.

  (3) Massage and pressure: Eye massage can promote blood circulation and muscle movement around the eyes, brightening the eyes and relieving fatigue.

Specific method: Apply eye care products before bedtime, and use the fingertip of the middle or ring finger to massage. Lightly push the upper eyelid from the inner corner of the eye to the temples, and then gently press each acupoint starting from the outer corner of the eye (in order: temple, eyebrow end, eyebrow center, eyebrow head, and inner corner of the eye). The same applies to the lower eyelid, but the acupoints for pressure are the outer corner of the eye (left bone, right adductor), the acupoint below the center of the lower eyelid, and the four white acupoints. When pressing each acupoint, do it until it feels slightly sore or swollen, release after 2 seconds, and repeat 5-6 times.

  (4) Eye mask care: 1-2 times a week, providing special moisturization and relaxation for the eyes. You can use collagen eye masks or make your own eye masks (mash carrots or cucumbers, add 4-6 drops of vitamin E oil, and mix well).

3. Special care methods:

  (1) Eye soreness and fatigue: Use milk to wash the eyes. Fold gauze into small pieces, completely soak it in milk, and cover it on the eyelids for 20-30 minutes. This can enhance the vitality of the eye muscles and relieve fatigue.

  (2) Dark circles: Use leftover tea bags to apply on the eyes before bedtime, and remove them after 20-30 minutes. This is effective for acquired dark circles.

  (3) Eye bags or physiological puffiness: Rub the affected area around the eyes with fresh potatoes, then apply them to the eye area for 15-20 minutes, and remove them. This can reduce swelling, and regular use can alleviate eye bag symptoms.
