Massage Techniques to Alleviate Dark Circles: Enhancing Blood Circulation for Brighter Eyes

December 12, 2023

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest part of the body and has a high level of melanin activity. Lack of exercise or sleep can easily lead to dark circles. Massage, which improves blood circulation and promotes metabolism, is often used to alleviate dark circles.

Since the orbicularis oculi muscle around the eyes is a circular fiber, circular massage can be done to target dark circles.

Before massage, you can apply eye cream that promotes blood circulation. Then, massage the following acupoints around the eyes: the Yintang point (the shallow depression between the eyebrows), the Sizhu Kong point (the slightly concave part at the end of the eyebrows), the temples (the concave part between the end of the eyebrows and the outer corner of the eye), the Yingming point (the depression above the inner corner of the eye), and the Yufu point (the outer corner of the eye). This will accelerate blood circulation and promote the smooth flow of meridians in the skin around the eyes.

Preventive massage is generally done for 3-5 minutes each time, twice a day. Therapeutic massage can be done for 10-15 minutes each time, 2-3 times a week.

Experts emphasize the importance of using the right amount of pressure during massage. If the pressure is too strong, it not only fails to promote blood circulation but also harms the skin around the eyes, leading to the development of fine lines. Of course, to eliminate dark circles, it is necessary to ensure adequate sleep, maintain a light diet, and engage in regular exercise.
