How to Treat Dark Circles: Adjusting Diet and Lifestyle

  It is common to see some people with dark circles under their eyes, which not only affects their appearance, but may also be a sign of a health problem.

The causes of dark circles include: abnormal diet and lack of iron; smoking and drinking alcohol; low mood, excessive worries, or lack of sleep due to staying up late; endocrine disorders or liver diseases that cause pigmentation around the eyes; lack of physical exercise and strenuous labor, leading to poor blood circulation; individuals who are physically weak or recovering from a serious illness; excessive sexual activity; and congenital inheritance.

How can we adjust our diet to treat dark circles?

First, we need to increase nutrition intake. Increase the intake of high-quality protein in the diet, ensuring more than 90 grams of protein per day, and consume more lean meat, milk, poultry eggs, and seafood rich in high-quality protein.

We should also increase the intake of vitamin A and vitamin E, as these vitamins nourish the eyeballs and eye muscles. Foods rich in vitamin A include animal liver, cream, poultry eggs, alfalfa, carrots, and apricots. Foods rich in vitamin E include sesame, peanuts, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.

At the same time, attention should be paid to the intake of iron-rich foods, as iron is a core component of hemoglobin. Foods rich in iron include animal liver, kelp, and lean meat.

When consuming iron-rich foods, it is also important to consume foods rich in vitamin C, such as sour jujube, prickly pear, oranges, tomatoes, and green vegetables, as vitamin C promotes iron absorption.

Another remedy is to boil 50 grams of black fungus, 10 red dates, and 100 grams of brown sugar, and take it twice a day. Regular consumption of this remedy can help eliminate dark circles.

In addition, avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. Smoking deprives the skin cells of oxygen, leading to dark circles. Alcohol initially dilates blood vessels, causing a flushed complexion, but it quickly leads to vasoconstriction, especially in the area around the eyes, resulting in temporary ischemia and hypoxia. Long-term alcohol consumption can result in noticeable dark circles. Furthermore, it is essential to ensure adequate sleep, as this not only helps prevent dark circles, but also promotes overall physical and mental health.
