Cycling safety precautions

April 11, 2023
Going out on a bicycle is an added element of insecurity compared to walking, so it is important to pay attention to some details when riding to circumvent some safety accidents. Here's a look at what safety precautions to take when riding a bicycle.

Overhaul your bike before you go

Every time you go out for a ride, you should have your bicycle serviced to keep it in good condition. Specifically look at whether the brakes and bells are normal and sensitive, whether the seat and tap are loose, whether the chain is normal, and whether the tires are intact and unbroken.

Warm tips

Use mountain tires (more than 1.75) to ensure the stability of the ride. If you are using V-brake, you should pay attention to the inner tube not to use the one with patch, so as not to make the inner tube leak air due to the high temperature generated by long time braking.

Prepare equipment

If you are riding at night, you should also have a flashlight and a tail light. In addition, try not to use unfamiliar bicycles to avoid accidents while riding.

Observe traffic regulations

Ride your bicycle on the right side of the non-motorized road, do not go against the traffic, and do not change lanes at will. When turning, do not jump the line and turn hard, slow down in advance, look around and indicate with clear hand signals before turning. Through the intersection, to slow down, pay attention to the oncoming pedestrians, vehicles, do not run red lights, stop and wait for the red light, wait for the green light before proceeding. Do not climb on motor vehicles, do not carry too heavy things, and do not ride with people.

Do not wear headphones while riding

Wearing headphones to listen to the radio while cycling will affect your hearing and distract your attention. If a small accident occurs, it will be slow to react and can easily lead to safety accidents.

No stunts and no joking around during riding

Young people are more flamboyant and like to play and fight, or do some stunts. When riding on the road, it is forbidden to do stunts, do not spread the handle with both hands, and do not ride with more than one person climbing and playing with each other to avoid accidents.

Avoid emergency braking on downhill slopes

Don't squeeze the brakes with one hand when riding a bicycle to avoid face braking, drifting and other high-risk accidents. When going downhill, prepare for braking in advance, keep your hips close to the cushion and brake slowly to avoid front flips caused by sharp braking.

Ride at an even speed

Try to maintain an even speed during riding, so that you can save energy and not have an accident due to sudden braking or acceleration, which affects other cars to make wrong judgments.

Do a good physical fitness assessment

Arrange a reasonable riding distance and route according to your physical ability and cycling skills before you set off, and avoid bragging so that you don't run out of energy halfway through the ride or have other accidents.
