8 ways to make you fall in love with running

April 6, 2023
Running is a great choice whether you are in a workout or in a weight loss perspective, but every relationship has its ups and downs, and the same love you have for running is no exception. Today you think you can't live without running, tomorrow you may be cursing yourself (while running, of course) for how you started such a crazy sport in the first place. If you think your love of running is cooling off (and who wouldn't?) Here are a few ways to rekindle your love of running.

Talk to running enthusiasts

Whether you're talking about past glories or thinking about future goals, sharing ideas with like-minded runners can be a great reminder of why you fell in love with running in the first place.

Get yourself some new running gear

Treat yourself to some new running "gadgets" - a new sweatshirt or a pair of socks - as a reward for your efforts. The reward will keep you energized, refreshed and determined to keep working out. After all, you're only as good as your clothes! Who wouldn't want to run in new, stylish gear! If you don't need new equipment, a massage or pedicure is always a good reward.

Show your performance

Demonstrate your running accomplishments in a visible way that will continue to fuel your enthusiasm for running (and getting more results). Get a cool medal rack and hang your medals in a neat and orderly fashion to add some visual flair to your walls!

Develop new running enthusiasts

Share your sports knowledge and experiences with others as a way to showcase your running accomplishments. If a family member or friend expresses an interest in running with you, ask her if she would like to run with you at the pace she is used to, if she would like you to help her shop for running shoes and other equipment, and if she would like to train with you for a race. Helping a novice runner will not only allow you to witness and celebrate your progress together, but will also give you a boost of motivation.

Volunteer at the race

Watching a race in person as a volunteer will shift your perspective on athletics and ignite your enthusiasm. The sight of an athlete hugging family and friends and bursting into tears after a race can do wonders for your running motivation. If you want to volunteer at a race, search the volunteer recruitment section online or contact the appropriate race director on the race website to discuss.

Read running-related texts

Reading the inspiring words of others about running can inspire you to get back on the running trail or take on a new challenge.

Run a race with a "destination"

If you regularly run races in your area, try to broaden your scope and take the opportunity to travel with you! Pick a place you've always wanted to go and check the Active or MarathonGuide websites to see when the race is being held there. If you can get your friends and family to go with you, you can turn it into a mini-vacation!

Watching the race

Whenever I watch a race, I am more or less envious of the participants. I've talked about this with runners who are in a similar frame of mind. Cheering for the athletes reminds you of the passionate feeling you had when you were encouraged, and that's what gets you motivated to start running again.
