The Medicinal and Nutritional Value of Ze Xie: Traditional Recipes for Health and Healing

Traditional Recipe 1: Ze Xie Porridge

Ingredients: 10g of Ze Xie, 100g of rice, a little white sugar.

Instructions: Rinse Ze Xie thoroughly and put it in a pot. Add an appropriate amount of water and cook to extract the juice. Add rice to make porridge. When cooked, add white sugar and boil for another one or two times. Take 1-2 doses daily.

Benefits: Regular consumption of this porridge can effectively treat urinary difficulties, edema, diarrhea, cloudy urine, excessive vaginal discharge, phlegm retention, and symptoms caused by insufficient kidney yin and excessive virtual fire, such as nocturnal emission and dizziness.

Traditional Recipe 2: Ze Xie and Crucian Carp Soup

Ingredients: 800g of old winter melon, 1/2 piece of fresh lotus leaf, 12g each of Poria cocos and Ze Xie (available at Chinese herbal medicine stores), 80g of Coix seed, 1 crucian carp, 100g of lean pork, 3 slices of ginger.

Instructions: Rinse all the ingredients. Cut the winter melon into pieces with the skin and seeds intact. Soak the Chinese herbs and Coix seed. Clean and fry the crucian carp until slightly golden, then add a little water. Put all the ingredients in a clay pot, add 3000ml of water (equivalent to 12 bowls), bring to a boil over high heat, and then simmer over low heat for two and a half hours. Add salt and it is ready to serve. Serves 3-5 people.

Traditional Recipe 3: Gentian and Ze Xie Wine

Ingredients: 30g of Gentiana scabra, 30g of Scutellaria baicalensis, 10g of Ze Xie, appropriate amount of gardenia fruit, Plantago asiatica, Acorus tatarinowii, Rehmannia glutinosa, Angelica sinensis, and yellow wine.

Instructions: Prepare using the hot soaking method. Take 20-30ml three times a day. Take it at the end of the last week before menstruation.

Benefits: Mainly used to treat symptoms of dysmenorrhea in women.
