The dried fruit of lotus consists of many aggregated follicles, which resemble pine cones and are about 4 centimeters long and 3-4 centimeters in diameter, with a swollen base. The outer appearance is purplish-brown, and the inner side is brownish. Some fruits have long stems at the base, and they are densely covered with light brown round spots.

After the follicles crack, two dark purple-red seeds can be seen. When the seed coat is broken, a grayish-white and oily cotyledon can be found.
