Effective Dietary Therapies for Diarrhea Relief

February 3, 2024

As the saying goes, "disease enters through the mouth," which means that many of the diseases we experience are caused by improper diet. When our diet is problematic, the first symptom that appears is often diarrhea. Therefore, it is important for diarrhea patients to pay attention to their diet. Here are several recommended dietary therapies for stopping diarrhea.

Remedy 1: Lotus Seed and Jujube Soup

Ingredients: 40g lotus seeds, 40g jujubes, 40g coix seeds, 40g Chinese yam, 20g lily bulbs, 20g sand ginseng, 20g fox nuts, 20g Solomon's seal rhizome.

Method: Wash the ingredients and put them in a pot. Add water and cook into a soup. Consume the soup along with the residue.

Efficacy: Tonifies the spleen, stops diarrhea, nourishes yin, moistens the lungs, relieves restlessness, and calms the mind. Suitable for chronic diarrhea, weakness with excessive sweating, dry mouth and insomnia at night, frequent nocturnal emissions in men, and excessive vaginal discharge in women.

    Remedy 2: Cucumber Leaves

    Ingredients: Fresh cucumber leaves.

Method: Remove the fuzz from the leaves, wash them with clean water, crush and squeeze the juice. Transfer the juice to a bowl, then mix it with an equal amount of honey (about 3 tablespoons). Take it once, or twice for a complete recovery.

Efficacy: Tonifies the spleen, benefits the kidneys, astringes the intestines, stops diarrhea, and has anti-aging effects. Treats chronic diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, loose stools, insomnia with excessive dreaming, and frequent nocturnal urination.

    Remedy 3: Pepper Steamed Egg

    Ingredients: 7 peppercorns, 1 egg.

Method: Poke a hole in the egg, grind the peppercorns into powder, and put them into the egg. Seal the hole with a wet paper, then wrap the egg with a layer of wet dough (about 3-5mm thick). Cook it over charcoal fire until done, remove the shell, and consume it on an empty stomach with white wine. Take 3g per day.

Efficacy: Dispels cold, warms the middle, and stops diarrhea.

Remedy 4: Ginseng Braised Pig Stomach

Ingredients: 1 pig stomach, 15g ginseng, 6g dried ginger, 7 scallions, 150g glutinous rice.

Method: Wash the pig stomach, cut the scallions into sections, wash the glutinous rice, and put them all into the pig stomach. Sew it with thread. Add water to a casserole, place the pig stomach in the pot, bring it to a boil over high heat, skim off any foam, and then simmer over low heat until the pig stomach becomes very tender. Serve warm.

Efficacy: Treats symptoms such as cold and painful stomachache, poor appetite, and diarrhea caused by deficiency and coldness of the spleen and stomach.
