Handling the College Entrance Examination: Tips for Dealing with Menstruation and Menstrual Pain

January 24, 2024

After ten years of hard work, the college entrance examination is still the path to success for many students in our country! However, unfortunately, getting your period during the exam can be a nightmare for many girls. But don't worry, as long as you know these tips, you will be able to handle the college entrance examination with ease.

  [Tip 1: Delaying your period]

For those who experience severe PMS symptoms that cause excessive psychological pressure, fear that their period will affect their performance in the exam, or affect their mood during the exam, you can use medication to delay your period under the guidance of a doctor.

  1. Take oral progesterone (such as progesterone capsules 200mg) one week before your expected period

If your menstrual cycle is regular and fixed, it is recommended to start taking natural progesterone one week before your next period (such as progesterone capsules 200mg or dydrogesterone 20mg) and continue until the end of the college entrance examination. Remember, it must be taken one week before your next period to be effective. If you start taking progesterone only 3-4 days before your next period, it may not be effective in delaying your period.

Of course, this method is not 100% effective. If your period comes during the medication, you can stop taking progesterone.

It is also important to pay attention to the contraindications and adverse reactions of the medication. The following patients should not use progesterone capsules: those who are allergic to progesterone, those with unexplained vaginal bleeding, thrombophlebitis, vascular embolism, stroke, etc.

The main adverse reactions include breakthrough bleeding, spotting, nausea, dizziness, and headache. Therefore, it is recommended to take the medication before bedtime to effectively avoid and reduce adverse reactions, without affecting the student's performance during the exam.

  2. Take combined oral contraceptives from the 1st to 5th day of your current period

This is the most effective method to delay your period, but it has a clear disadvantage - it requires a longer duration of medication. For women with regular menstrual cycles, you need to take the combined oral contraceptives from the 1st to 5th day of your period and continue until you can stop taking them when your period is due, such as the day after the college entrance examination. If you exceed 5 days, the effect may not be good.

  3. Injectable progesterone

If your period is about to come in 3-4 days, it is the least effective time to delay your period. If you really want to delay your period at this time, you can only consider injecting progesterone intramuscularly, 20-40mg. Injectable progesterone has a stable blood concentration and good absorption, and it can be used until the end of the college entrance examination.
