Taboos and Tips for Managing Acne

January 15, 2024

Acne refers to the inflammation of pimples on the face, chest, and back. Many people often don't know what to do or don't pay attention to acne. Let's take a look at the causes of acne and the taboos!

Taboos in Acne Diet

1. Eat foods rich in zinc and calcium. Zinc can increase resistance, accelerate protein synthesis and cell regeneration, and promote wound healing, while calcium can calm the nerves.

2. Eat foods with high vitamin content.

3. Eat foods high in dietary fiber. It can promote intestinal peristalsis, speed up metabolism, and eliminate excess oil as soon as possible. Such foods include whole wheat bread, coarse grains, soybeans, and bamboo shoots.

Avoid: Avoid greasy and heavy-tasting foods. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that acne is caused by overeating fatty and sweet foods, so one should try to eat less fatty meats, fried foods, and high-sugar foods.

Avoid: Avoid spicy and hot foods. Spicy foods can easily stimulate nerves and blood vessels, leading to acne recurrence. Also, avoid stimulating coffee.

Five Taboos for Persistent Acne

1. Avoid picking or squeezing

Squeezing acne with hands or tools not only fails to get rid of acne, but also causes secondary infection due to bacteria on the hands. The force applied during squeezing can also cause subcutaneous bleeding, leaving scars that take 4-6 weeks to disappear. In addition, the wound caused by picking and squeezing, after repeated stimulation and skin proliferation, can result in raised scars.

2. Avoid washing the face too often

If the skin with acne is washed too often, it will stimulate the secretion function of the sebaceous glands, making acne grow more easily. Once the oil on the surface of the skin is washed away, the sebaceous glands have to work overtime to perform their natural protective function. As a result, the sebaceous glands become more and more restless and active.

3. Avoid eating spicy, fried, and high-calorie foods

Although these foods do not directly cause acne, they can "worsen" the condition of acne. These foods can increase the burden on the heart and lower the quality of vitamin K in the blood, indirectly triggering the formation of acne.

4. Avoid using exfoliating scrubs and toners

Exfoliating scrubs and toners can overly stimulate the epidermis, aggravating the inflammation of the skin, and also exacerbate the secretion function of the sebaceous glands, making the situation worse. In addition, toners can shrink pores, making the already clogged pores even smaller.

5. Avoid smoking

Nicotine in cigarettes can constrict the walls of micro blood vessels, causing toxins in the blood and lymph to accumulate. This reduces the oxygenation rate of skin cells, weakens the skin's healing ability, and makes it prone to cross-infection of acne wounds.
