Effective Dietary Strategies for Preventing and Treating Fatty Liver

Fatty liver is not an independent disease, but refers to the excessive accumulation of fat in liver cells caused by various reasons. To prevent fatty liver, we should develop a good diet habit, engage in appropriate physical exercise, improve our immune system, and consume foods that can help regulate fatty liver.


1. Black Plum

Black plum can be eaten as a snack or added to porridge to create a tangy black plum porridge. The recipe for black plum porridge is simple. Prepare around 15 black plums and 100 grams of glutinous rice. Boil the black plums to extract the juice, then cook the glutinous rice in the juice to make porridge. Add an appropriate amount of rock sugar after the porridge is cooked. It is best to consume the porridge while it is warm for better effects.

2. Soy Products

Soy products such as soy milk, tofu, and bean sprouts are the preferred foods for diet therapy of fatty liver. Modern nutritional studies have proven that soy products not only contain abundant nutrients, but also have lipid-lowering effects. Consuming 30-50 grams of soy protein daily can significantly lower serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and triglyceride levels without affecting high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Researchers pointed out that the lipid-lowering effect of soy is more significant in individuals with higher initial blood lipid levels.

3. Lotus Leaf Tea

Lotus leaf tea is a common fat-reducing medicinal tea that has lipid-lowering and detoxifying effects. It can also promote liver health and treat fatty liver. It needs to be consumed regularly to be effective. Lotus leaf tea can be brewed directly with boiling water or boiled to make a decoction. Drink it as a substitute for regular tea and continue to consume it for 2 to 3 months.


4. White Radish Juice

Take a white radish, soak it in water for 20 minutes, then wash and peel it. Rinse the radish with warm water and cut it into small pieces. Juice the radish and consume it in the morning and afternoon. It can help reduce fat, promote digestion, and relieve flatulence.

5. Chinese Herbal Medicine

There are many Chinese herbal medicines that can treat fatty liver, most of which have hepatoprotective effects. Examples include wolfberry, ginseng, bupleurum, capillaris, turmeric, fleeceflower root, and alisma. Although beneficial to the liver, it is also important to pay attention to the dosage and avoid excessive consumption.

6. Milk

Milk contains hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors, which can inhibit the activity of cholesterol synthesis enzymes in the body, thereby reducing cholesterol synthesis and lowering cholesterol levels in the blood. In addition, milk is rich in calcium, which can also reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the body.

Individuals with fatty liver should consume less animal fat in their daily diet, use less oil when cooking, eat more whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and consume more acidic foods such as vinegar and tomatoes. It is best to avoid alcohol, especially hard liquor, as alcohol can further burden the liver. Additionally, regular physical exercise is important. The intensity of exercise does not need to be high, and activities like walking or jogging are suitable methods that can be done daily.
