  【Original Plant Morphology of Magnolia Officinalis】

  Magnolia officinalis is a tall tree, reaching up to 20m. The young branches and buds are covered with reddish-brown short hairs. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-3cm long; stipule scar is elliptical, 3-4cm long;

  The leaves of Magnolia officinalis are leathery, narrowly ovate-oblanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 8-17cm long and 2.5-5.5cm wide, with an acute apex and usually obtuse tip, wedge-shaped base, slightly curled margin, and reddish-brown hairs on the back of the leaf. There are 8-12 pairs of lateral veins.

  The pedicel is 6-18mm long, covered with reddish-brown short hairs, bracts fall off, leaving a scarred ring.

  The perianth consists of 9 segments, white in color. The outer three segments are oblong-elliptic, 6-7cm long, and the inner two segments are inversely ovate, 5-6cm long. There are numerous stamens, about 1cm long, with anthers protruding as short blunt triangles; there are numerous carpels, and the pistil cluster is about 1.5cm long.

  The aggregate fruit is inversely ovate, dark red, and becomes woody and purplish-red when mature. The seeds are oval, 6-7cm long, and red. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from August to October.
