Is a Baby's Stomach Fragile and Unable to Handle Cold or Raw Food?

December 30, 2023

Nothing can attract more attention than a baby. The baby is a growing sapling, adapting to the world at the fastest pace. But is it true that some people think that a baby's stomach is fragile and cannot eat cold or raw food?

Is a baby's stomach fragile and unable to handle cold or raw food?

This statement is very common, and most people tend to believe it. However, a baby's stomach is not that fragile. Food at room temperature or taken out of the refrigerator can be eaten directly without the need to heat it up.

Raw vegetables and fruits have higher nutritional value, and cold yogurt is a good complementary food for babies. The active lactobacillus in cold yogurt is alive, and heating it up not only affects the taste but also kills off the bacteria. If it's too cold, you can take it out of the refrigerator and let it sit for a while.

For babies under one year old, they can eat anything except for salt, milk, honey, and foods that pose a choking hazard, such as nuts and whole grapes. And there's no specific order or sequence to follow.

How much is the appropriate amount of starting solid food?

5-6 months: 1 serving of solid food, 30-80g each time, 1 snack.

7-9 months: 2 servings of solid food, 70-120g each time, 1 snack.

10-12 months: 3 servings of solid food, 100-150g each time, 1-2 snacks.

12-15 months: 3 servings of solid food, 120-200g each time, 2 snacks.

Babies cannot eat adult meals

Babies under one year old cannot eat adult meals. Their solid food needs to be prepared separately by the mother. Even after turning one, babies still cannot eat adult meals.

This is because adult meals are usually cooked in a coarse manner and contain more seasonings. Babies may have difficulty digesting them and consuming too much seasoning, especially salt, can increase the burden on their kidneys and affect their normal development.

Generally, babies can try eating some adult meals after the age of two. But before that, mothers should work harder and prepare separate solid food for them.
