Managing Iron Deficiency Anemia: Recipes and Remedies for Nourishing Blood and Qi

【Recipe】 Dried Duck with Ginseng and Longan

Ingredients: 1 duck (about 2000g), 3g ginseng, 20g longan, 50g lotus seeds, 50 dates.

Preparation: Remove the feathers and internal organs of the duck, chop off the feet, wash and drain. Slice the ginseng, soak the lotus seeds in water to remove the skin and core, wash the longan. Mix 5g of salt, 50ml of soy sauce, and 30ml of cooking wine, and apply it on the surface and abdomen of the duck. Mix the ginseng, longan, lotus seeds, and dates, and stuff them into the duck's belly. Place the duck in a clay pot, steam over high heat until cooked.

Effects: Tonify qi, invigorate spleen, and nourish blood.

Usage: Consume once a week, with meals.

【Blood Nourishing Liver Slices】

Ingredients: 30g astragalus, 9g angelica, 9g hawthorn slices, 250g pig (or lamb) liver, 1 egg, 50g bamboo shoot slices, 50g cucumber slices.

Preparation: Remove the tendons from the pig (or lamb) liver and slice it thinly. Mix it with the egg, starch, and salt to make a batter. Blanch the bamboo shoot slices in boiling water. Boil the astragalus, angelica, and hawthorn in water until reduced to 20ml. Add soy sauce, salt, and cooking wine to make a sauce. Heat the wok over high heat, add oil and heat it to 60-70% hot, then slide in the liver slices and cook until done. Remove the liver slices from the oil. Leave a small amount of oil in the wok, stir-fry the chopped green onion and ginger, then add the liver slices, bamboo shoot slices, cucumber slices, and sauce. Stir-fry evenly, thicken the sauce, and drizzle with sesame oil.

Effects: Tonify liver and nourish blood.

Usage: Consume with meals.

【Prince Ginseng Lamb Soup】

Ingredients: 500g lamb, 30g prince ginseng, 15g polygonum multiflorum, 20g longan.

Preparation: Cut the lamb into small pieces. Wrap the prince ginseng, longan, and polygonum multiflorum in a clean gauze bag, tie it tightly. Add scallion, ginger, cooking wine, salt, and other seasonings to the pot. Add enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil over high heat, skim off the foam, simmer over low heat until the lamb is tender. Remove the herbal bag and seasonings before serving.

Effects: Tonify qi, warm the middle, and nourish kidney and blood.

Usage: Consume with meals.

【Wood Ear Red Date Soup】

Ingredients: 30g black fungus, 20 red dates.

Preparation: Soak and wash the black fungus and red dates. Boil them in water to make a soup. Add a little brown sugar for flavoring.

Effects: Nourish kidney and blood.

Usage: Consume one dose daily, eat the red dates and drink the soup.

【Donkey-hide gelatin porridge】

Ingredients: 30g donkey-hide gelatin, 100g glutinous rice.

Preparation: Cook the glutinous rice into porridge. When the porridge is ready, add crushed donkey-hide gelatin and stir until melted. Add brown sugar to taste.

Effects: Nourish and replenish blood.

Usage: Consume one dose daily, divided into two servings.
