Preventing Stretch Marks: Tips for Expectant Mothers

March 2, 2024

Everyone has the desire to be beautiful, even moms who have given birth to children have the right to pursue beauty. Moms start to develop stretch marks around 4-5 months of pregnancy. Stretch marks are not scary, the key is to take preventive measures during pregnancy.

1. Eat foods rich in collagen

Foods rich in collagen can enhance the elasticity and toughness of the body, improve the skin's ability to repair and regenerate, and effectively fight against stretch marks. It is recommended for expectant mothers to consume foods that are rich in collagen, rather than relying on supplements. Additionally, even though collagen-rich foods can prevent stretch marks, it is best not to consume them excessively.

2. Control your weight

The reason why stretch marks appear on the pregnant belly is because expectant mothers overeat during pregnancy, causing rapid weight gain and accelerating the stretching of the belly. This leads to the rupture of the local elastic fibers in the belly, resulting in stretch marks. Therefore, expectant mothers must control their weight within a reasonable range during pregnancy. A weight gain of approximately 12.5 kilograms throughout the entire pregnancy is considered appropriate.

3. Apply olive oil

Around four months into pregnancy, expectant mothers can use a syringe to extract about 10ml of olive oil daily and apply it to their belly and waist. Since the rest of the body of a pregnant woman doesn't undergo significant changes, it is recommended to focus on the belly and waist. It is better to use natural products during pregnancy, avoiding chemicals as much as possible, and being cautious and careful about anything that may affect the baby.

4. Massage and focus on skin care

Experts suggest that preventing stretch marks should start with regular skincare. Prior to pregnancy, it is important to exercise regularly and massage the skin to increase its elasticity and effectively fight against stretch marks. Choose massage oils or moisturizing lotions for better results. Cold water showers can also enhance skin elasticity. Additionally, pay attention to nutrition and consume foods rich in protein and vitamins to increase skin elasticity.

In conclusion, with proper care, stretch marks can be effectively avoided. Whether or not stretch marks appear is not related to weight (but rather the speed of weight changes), genetics, or age. To get rid of stretch marks, it is important to take care of your skin not only during pregnancy but also after giving birth.
