How to Deal with Hemorrhoids After Giving Birth

[4 Traditional Chinese Medicine Methods to Treat Hemorrhoids]

  Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapy

Ingredients: 30g of Pini Nitidus, 30g of Artemisiae Argyi, 4 lotus seed shells, 2000ml of water.

Method: 1. Put all the ingredients into a pot and boil them. Then pour the boiled mixture into a clean enamel basin and let the patient sit on the basin, allowing the steam to fumigate the anus.

  2. When the liquid becomes slightly warm, pour it into a small basin and clean the area around the anus twice a day. The liquid can be boiled again the next day and reused once, and continue fumigating and washing for several days.

  Topical Therapy

Ingredients: 1.5g of Musk, 7.5g of Strychnos Nux Vomica, 1.5g of Borneol, 1.5g of Alum.

Method: Grind the musk, strychnos nux vomica, borneol, and alum separately into fine powder, then mix them together and add powdered borneol. Mix well and store in a bottle. Apply a small amount of the mixture on the surface of the hemorrhoids.

  Fumigation and Washing Method 1

Ingredients: 0.5kg of pigeon dung, 4kg of water.

Method: 1. Put the pigeon dung and water into a pottery jar and boil for 5 minutes on a stove. Then remove the jar from the heat and place it against a wall indoors, allowing the patient to sit on the mouth of the jar for fumigating the hemorrhoids (without burning the skin).

  2. Fumigate for thirty minutes every night, then wash the affected area with a cotton pad soaked in water. Change the treatment every three days. Improvement can be seen after one week of fumigation, and complete recovery can be achieved after about two weeks of treatment.

  Fumigation and Washing Method 2

Ingredients: 20g of alum, 15g of saltpeter, 25g of gallnut, 15g of prickly ash, 15g of plantain seed, 30g of Artemisiae Argyi, 15g of Angelica dahurica, 15g of honeysuckle, 6g of radix glycyrrhizae.

Method: 1. Put the ingredients in a basin, add 5000ml of water, and simmer over low heat for 20-30 minutes.

  2. Pour the liquid into a slightly larger basin, and while the steam is still hot, sit on the basin and fumigate the affected area. When the liquid is not too hot, sit in a bath or use a gauze soaked in the liquid to fumigate the affected area for 20-30 minutes. Fumigate once a day, morning and evening.

  3. After each fumigation, lie on your side and apply hemorrhoid ointment to the prolapsed hemorrhoids. Gently massage the hemorrhoids to push them back into the anus. Use gauze to compress and fix if necessary, to prevent them from protruding. Continue fumigation until the symptoms disappear.

  [Postpartum Hemorrhoid Care]

For new mothers troubled by hemorrhoids, it is recommended to get out of bed and move around as soon as possible after giving birth. Change underwear and perineal pads frequently, and keep the perineal area clean and dry.

At the same time, it is advisable to eat foods that are high in fiber, such as celery, lettuce, spinach, black fungus, apples, oranges, etc., and avoid eating spicy and irritating foods. Drink plenty of warm water to maintain regular bowel movements and prevent constipation.

If the symptoms do not improve, it is recommended to seek medical advice from a proctologist. It is not recommended to take oral medications during the lactation period. Topical medications or infrared radiation therapy can be selectively used as auxiliary treatments. For severe symptoms, surgery or excision can be performed after the puerperium.
