The Potential Risks of Drinking Milk for Pregnant Women

Milk is a common nutritional substance in our daily lives, and many people like to drink milk in the morning and evening. It has been proven that milk can indeed supplement the nutrients needed by the human body, especially for pregnant women. Drinking milk regularly can also supplement calcium, promoting better fetal development. However, not all expectant mothers can drink milk in reality.


1. Suffering from gastrointestinal ulcers

Although milk can alleviate the stimulation of stomach acid on ulcer surfaces, it can stimulate the secretion of a large amount of stomach acid, which can worsen the condition.

2. Suffering from iron-deficiency anemia

Iron in food needs to be converted into ferrous ions in the digestive tract before it can be absorbed and utilized. If you drink milk, the ferrous ions in your body will combine with the calcium and phosphate salts in milk to form insoluble compounds, affecting the absorption and utilization of iron. This is not beneficial for anemia patients to recover their health.

3. Lactose acid deficiency

Milk contains a high amount of lactose, but it needs to be broken down into lactose and glucose by lactose acid in the digestive tract before it can be absorbed by the human body. If there is a deficiency of lactose acid, consuming milk can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea.

4. Pregnant women with oral ulcers

Milk contains elements that can secrete many substances, and these substances can accumulate at the site of the scar, leading to the worsening of oral ulcers. This can affect the normal diet of pregnant women, which is detrimental to both the mother and the baby.

The above facts prove that what we consider as healthy and nutritious may not be suitable for everyone. Everyone's physical condition is different, and the nutrients that need to be supplemented vary as well. Therefore, it is best to choose what is suitable for oneself when supplementing nutrition.
