Preventing Heat Rash in Summer Babies: Tips for Parents

December 20, 2023

Summer babies have a higher metabolism rate and are prone to sweating. If they are not dressed properly, engage in excessive physical activity, or cry continuously, they will produce more sweat, which can easily lead to heat rash. However, parents are often reluctant to use air conditioning for fear of their baby getting cold. So what can we do to prevent heat rash in babies during the summer? Let's find out.

Treating heat rash with medication only provides temporary relief. To effectively alleviate the problem, it is important to focus on prevention and take good care of the baby. So how can we do that?

1. Add a small amount of Ten Drops Water to warm water for bathing the baby (do not directly apply Ten Drops Water to the baby's skin as it contains ingredients like chili peppers that can irritate the delicate skin).

2. Boil some loquat leaves and add the liquid to the bathwater for the child.

3. Mothers can boil water with honeysuckle, add a few drops of flower water, Ten Drops Water, Pogostemonis Herba Extract, or Honeysuckle Vine Extract to the bathwater. It is important to dry the baby's skin thoroughly, especially in the folds, after bathing.

4. Applying a little cornstarch to the folds of the baby's skin can prevent heat rash.

5. After bathing, lightly apply some talcum powder to areas prone to sweating or skin folds to keep the skin dry and prevent heat rash. However, be careful not to use too much powder, as it can accumulate on the skin, mix with sweat, and block sweat glands, making heat dissipation more difficult and increasing the risk of heat rash. After applying the powder, gently brush off any excess. Additionally, if using talcum powder, make sure it is made from natural ingredients, as some babies may be allergic to certain components of talcum powder.

6. Pay attention to ventilation indoors. In the summer, high temperatures combined with poor ventilation can easily lead to heat rash in children. Therefore, parents should open windows in the room and ventilate it regularly.

7. Prepare lightweight clothes for the baby. In the summer, children sweat easily even with a little activity, so mothers should prepare breathable and sweat-absorbent clothes for their babies. If the child's clothes become wet with sweat, they should be changed immediately to prevent prolonged contact between sweat and the baby's skin, which can lead to heat rash.

8. Allow the baby to consume cooling foods. In the summer, it is recommended to eat foods that can cool the body. Infants should drink more soups and choose foods that help detoxify and cool down, as this can better prevent heat rash.

9. Use heat rash powder appropriately. After bathing the baby, it is common to apply heat rash powder. However, the powder can clump together after the baby sweats. Therefore, mothers should pay attention to the condition of the baby's skin and wipe and clean it in a timely manner. Apply heat rash powder in a reasonable amount.

There are many ways to solve the problem of heat rash in infants during the summer. Parents should not worry too much and choose the appropriate treatment method to effectively prevent heat rash in infants during the summer.
