Therapeutic Porridges for Summer Heat Syndrome in Infants and Young Children

In the scorching summer season, infants and young children often suffer from a prolonged fever disease called summer heat or heat syndrome, which is more common in infants aged 6 months to 3 years. Due to the underdeveloped nervous system and poor temperature regulation function in infants, coupled with inadequate sweating function, sweating is not smooth, heat dissipation is slow, and it is difficult to adapt to the hot summer environment, resulting in persistent fever. Lotus Leaf and Winter Melon Porridge Take two fresh lotus leaves, wash them, and boil them in 500 ml of water. After filtering, reserve the juice. Silkworm Cocoon and Chinese Yam Porridge Use 10 silkworm cocoons, 10 red dates, 30 grams of Chinese yam, 30 grams of glutinous rice, and an appropriate amount of white sugar. First, boil the silkworm cocoons in 500 ml of water, filter the residue, remove the pits from the red dates, and add Chinese yam and glutinous rice to cook into a thin porridge. Consume once in the morning and evening. Silkworm cocoons relieve thirst and detoxify; Chinese yam and red dates invigorate the spleen and stomach. Suitable for children with low-grade fever, fatigue, poor appetite, and loose stools.

Nourishing Qi and Clearing Heat Porridge Take 1 gram of American ginseng, 10 grams of Beishashen, 10 grams of Dendrobium, 5 grams of Zhimu, and 30 grams of glutinous rice. First, wrap Beishashen, Dendrobium, and Zhimu in a cloth and boil them in water for 30 minutes. Remove the residue and keep the juice. Then grind the American ginseng into powder, add it to the rice and medicinal juice, cook into a porridge, and add white sugar for flavoring. Consume in the morning and evening. American ginseng nourishes Qi and nourishes Yin; Beishashen, Dendrobium, and Zhimu nourish Yin, clear heat, and relieve thirst. Suitable for children with persistent fever, thirst, and little or no sweating.
