In life, eczema patients scratch their skin due to itching, causing damage and erosion of the epidermis and the release of exudate. On one hand, this increases the chance of bacteria and allergens invading the body. On the other hand, the shedding of skin cells and serum exudate, as well as other self-tissue proteins, can worsen the body's allergic reactions and intensify itching when absorbed into the bloodstream. Especially for infantile eczema, it is caused by a combination of internal and external factors, with a long course and frequent relapses, making it impossible to seek a one-time cure. In daily life, several points need to be noted to avoid triggering or aggravating factors:
Firstly, breastfeeding is advocated. Formula feeding can use milk, goat's milk, formula milk, and amino acid products. For children with atopic dermatitis, the addition of complementary foods should be done gradually, starting with a small amount and slowly increasing. The variety of complementary foods should be added one by one, progressively. It is recommended to have small, frequent meals. Complementary foods should be thoroughly cooked. The spoon size should be appropriate to avoid food spilling and irritating the skin around the mouth. It is advisable to avoid foods that are known to cause allergies.
Clothing for affected children should preferably be made of pure cotton, loose and soft, with a slightly thinner thickness compared to infants of the same age, to keep the child cool. This is crucial.
The living environment should be cool, well-ventilated, and clean. It is best to clean the room with a wet mop and cloth to avoid inhaling house dust, mites, and animal hair, which are allergens.
When bathing, the use of soap, shampoo, water temperature that is too hot, and prolonged bathing time are all irritants to the skin. It is recommended to bathe for 5-10 minutes, with water temperature between 36°C-38°C, and to use a mild shower gel with a pH value of 5.5-6.0. Apply moisturizer immediately after bathing.
Choose the best moisturizer based on the child's skin condition, season, climate, and other factors, and apply it to the whole body 1-2 times daily.
Proper care can prevent the occurrence of eczema and even result in self-healing in 50% of patients under good care. Compared to treatment, caring for eczema is more important.
