Fengmen: The Acupoint for Preventing Strokes and Treating Wind Disorders

December 31, 2023

Fengmen is the meeting point of the Du Meridian and the Bladder Meridian of the Foot Taiyang. The "Lei Jing Tu Yi" once mentioned: "This acupoint can dispel heat from the body and prevent abscesses, ulcers, and other ailments when frequently moxibusted." It is mainly used to treat various wind disorders, with functions such as promoting lung function, dispersing exterior conditions, regulating meridians, dispelling wind, and regulating Qi. It has a good effect in preventing strokes caused by colds, hypertension, as well as abscesses. To prevent strokes caused by hypertension, gentle moxibustion is commonly used on Fengmen (similar to gentle moxibustion on Zusanli); to prevent influenza and colds, ginger moxibustion on Fengmen is often used.

Ginger moxibustion on Fengmen: In areas where influenza is prevalent, ginger moxibustion can be applied to the Fengmen acupoint. Each time, use a moxa stick about the size of a soybean to moxibust until the local area feels warm and comfortable, with slightly flushed skin. Moxibustion can be done once a day.
