Overview
Acupoint injection is a therapy that combines acupuncture and medication. It involves injecting selected Chinese and Western medicines into specific acupoints, tender points, or positive response points on the body surface to treat diseases through the dual action of needle insertion and medication.
Medications and Instruments
Commonly used medications include compound angelica injection, astragalus, salvia, safflower, isatis root, valerian, honeysuckle injection, compound vitamin B injection, antibiotics, placental tissue fluid, quinine, etc.
Disposable syringes and needles are used. Commonly used needles include size 4-6 regular injection needles, dental needles size 5, and long needles for local anesthesia.
Procedure
(1) Generally, locate the treatment points such as back-shu points and mu points with obvious positive reactions according to the treatment needs.
(2) Select appropriate syringes and needles based on the chosen acupoints, their locations, and the dosage of medication.
(3) After routine disinfection of the local skin, quickly insert the injection needle into the acupoint, then slowly advance or move it up and down. When there is a sensation of qi under the needle, withdraw it slightly. If no blood is drawn, the medication can be injected. For general diseases, inject the medication at a moderate speed; for chronic diseases or weak individuals, use mild stimulation and inject the medication slowly; for acute diseases or strong individuals, use strong stimulation and inject the medication quickly.
The amount of medication injected into each acupoint is generally 0.3-0.5ml for head, face, and ear acupoints, and 2-5ml for limbs and thick muscles on the back. The dosage can be adjusted based on the condition and medication. Treatment is usually administered every other day, with 5-10 treatments per course. There is a rest period of 3-5 days between two courses.
Acupoint Injection Procedure
Indications
It is suitable for various lumbago, leg pain, shoulder and back pain, joint pain, and soft tissue injuries and contusions. Examples include sciatica, shoulder periarthritis, lumbar muscle strain, fibrous tissue inflammation, benign arthritis, bronchitis, hypertension, gastric and duodenal ulcers, hepatitis, biliary colic, neurasthenia, and sequelae of cerebral concussion.
Precautions
(1) Strictly follow aseptic techniques to prevent infection. Pay attention to the properties of medications and conduct a skin test for medications that may cause allergic reactions before use.
(2) Lumbar and sacral injections are not recommended for pregnant women.
(3) In general, medications should not be injected into joint cavities to avoid joint swelling and pain. High-concentration glucose should not be injected subcutaneously; it must be injected deep into the muscle.
