Hand needle therapy is a method of treating diseases throughout the body by needling specific acupoints on the hand. It is developed based on the theory of meridians and collaterals in traditional Chinese medicine. As early as in the "Nei Jing", there are records of the connection between the hand and the internal organs. The "Ling Shu • Reverse Fat and Thinness" states: "The three yin channels of the hand run from the chest to the hand, and the three yang channels of the hand run from the hand to the head..." The detailed description of the meridian pathways is explained in the "Ling Shu • Meridians", such as the hand Taiyin channel running through the hand's Da Yu Ji point and ending at the radial side of the thumb, and the Hand Yangming channel intersecting with the Taiyin channel, originating from the radial side of the index finger and running up between the two bones of the palm, etc. The "Su Wen • Taiyin Yangming Theory" points out: "Yin Qi... runs from the arm to the fingertips, and Yang Qi runs from the hand upwards." The "Ling Shu • Dynamic Channels" states: "The meeting point of the four ends of yin and yang is the main channel of this Qi." The hand is the end of the upper limb and the place where the three yin and three yang meridians meet, playing an important role in connecting the meridian Qi. The "Ling Shu • Abnormalities of Defensive Qi" also states: "The skin belongs to the branches, which transport to the four ends." Therefore, the hand meridians are closely connected to the meridians throughout the body. According to the theory of specimens and root structures of the twelve meridians, the hand is also the place where the Qi of the meridians is generated and distributed. By using hand needle therapy, needling specific acupoints on the hand can easily stimulate the meridian Qi and regulate the function of the internal organs and meridians, thereby treating diseases in various parts of the body. The "Ling Shu • Febrile Diseases" has recorded: "For throat obstruction, tongue curled, dry mouth, restlessness, heartache, pain in the inner arm, unreachable head, take the acupoint under the nail of the little finger and the second finger on the hand, away from the tip like leek leaves." The "Ling Shu • Syncope" also states: "Deafness, take the acupoint under the nail of the little finger and the flesh junction... Tinnitus, take the acupoint under the nail of the middle finger."
