Yongquan, the well point of the Kidney Meridian of Foot Shaoyin, has the functions of calming the mind, nourishing the kidneys and essence, and regulating liver qi. Regular moxibustion on this point has the benefits of health preservation and longevity, making it an important acupoint for elderly health moxibustion. Common methods include moxibustion with ginger slices on Yongquan and moxibustion on Yongquan without scarring (direct moxibustion).
Moxibustion with ginger slices on Yongquan:
Assume a prone position. Place fresh ginger slices about 0.4 cm thick on the Yongquan point and then apply moxibustion with moxa sticks. Each session consists of 5-10 moxa sticks, with the size of the moxa sticks being similar to that of yellow beans or small lotus seeds. Moxibustion is performed once every other day, and 10 sessions constitute one course of treatment.
Moxibustion on Yongquan without scarring:
Assume a prone position. Perform moxibustion following the method of moxibustion without scarring. Each point is moxibusted with 3-5 moxa sticks, with the size of the moxa sticks being similar to that of wheat grains or small lotus seeds. If the moxibustion becomes too painful, quickly replace the moxa sticks to prevent blistering and infection.
In addition to the health moxibustion methods mentioned above, there are also Zhongwan moxibustion, Sanyinjiao moxibustion, Shenshu moxibustion, Mingmen moxibustion, Quchi moxibustion, Yanglingquan moxibustion, and "Futian moxibustion" which is specifically applied in the hot summer days, all of which are widely used by people.
