The Benefits of Tongue Exercises for Health and Anti-Aging

December 5, 2023

Modern medicine has shown that saliva contains various components found in plasma, including mucoprotein, globulin, over 10 enzymes, nearly 10 vitamins, multiple minerals, organic acids, and hormones. Among them, there is a substance called salivary gland hormone that promotes cell growth and division, and accelerates the synthesis of ribonucleic acid and proteins.

Saliva also contains an enzyme called peroxidase, which can inhibit the toxicity of carcinogens. Regularly exercising the tongue can stimulate the secretion of saliva, which is beneficial for delaying aging and maintaining overall health.

The specific practices are as follows:

1. Licking the palate with the tongue. Sit in a quiet place with closed eyes and focus the mind. Gently lick the palate with the tip of the tongue to harmonize the breath. Saliva will be generated frequently at the tip of the tongue. When the mouth is full of saliva, swallow it in several portions, making a gurgling sound and directing it to the lower abdomen. This helps prevent the formation of internal heat and promotes smooth circulation of qi and blood.

2. Stirring the sea with a red dragon. Use the tongue to lick and rub the inner side of the teeth and gums in a circular motion, starting from the left and moving to the right, and from the top to the bottom for a total of 9 rounds. Then, repeat the same sequence to lick and rub the outer side of the teeth and gums for another 9 rounds. This method strengthens the teeth, benefits the spleen and stomach, lightens the body, and dispels disease.

3. Swirling the Hua Chi with drumming. Gently close the lips and move the tongue back and forth in the mouth with the guidance of the tongue root. When saliva is produced, perform 36 drumming movements with sound. After the mouth is full of saliva, swallow it in 3 portions, while using intention to guide it into the lower abdomen. This is called the elixir of jade, which irrigates the five organs and nourishes the limbs.

4. Stretching the tongue like a red dragon. Open the mouth wide and extend the tip of the tongue as far as possible, feeling a stretching sensation at the tongue root. When the tongue can no longer extend, retract it back into the mouth. Repeat this stretching and retracting movement 9 times, which benefits the five organs and enhances facial beauty.
