The Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian connects with the Hand Shao Yang San Jiao Meridian at the outer corner of the eye and extends to the hand. It is associated with the organs such as the eyes and ears, and is connected to the Liver Meridian and the Gallbladder Meridian from the temple to the dorsum of the foot. It passes through the heart, throat, and face, and is connected to the muscles and tendons of the eyes. It ends at the buttocks, chest, and breasts, crossing over the crown of the head and intersecting with the opposite side. The meridian is closely intertwined with the muscles and tendons. So, what is the function of the Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian?

Function of the Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian

According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating the relevant meridians can strengthen their functions when the organs are not functioning well. Therefore, the best way to improve gallbladder function is to stimulate the Gallbladder Meridian. Regularly tapping the Gallbladder Meridian can stimulate the secretion of bile, replenish the body's qi and energy, keep the mind clear, and accelerate the movement of the meridian, helping to eliminate waste accumulated on the outer side of the thigh through the Gallbladder Meridian. Stimulating the Qiu Xu point can effectively improve the health of patients with fatty liver, gallstones, and cholecystitis.

Course of the Gallbladder Meridian

The Gallbladder Meridian starts at the outer corner of the eye, at the pupil's corner. It travels up and down, spreading across the side of the face, ears, forehead, and back of the head. It intersects with the Triple Burner Meridian, Small Intestine Meridian, Governor Vessel, Stomach Meridian, and Pericardium Meridian, and then deepens into the diaphragm, connecting with the Liver Meridian and belonging to the gallbladder and liver. It then travels along the ribs, surrounding the pubic area on both sides, and enters the hip joint, passing through the armpit and the side of the chest, where it intersects with the Liver Meridian and Bladder Meridian. It continues downward, passing through the buttocks, the outer side of the thigh, the outer side of the knee, the outer side of the calf, and ending at the Qiu Qi point between the 4th and 5th metatarsal bones on the foot, which is the terminal point of the Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian. Another branch merges with the Liver Meridian at the Da Dun point on the big toe, belonging to the gallbladder and liver and connecting with the Dai Mai meridian and Yang Wei meridian.

Benefits of Tapping the Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian

The Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian runs along the side of the body. Regularly pressing the acupoints on the Gallbladder Meridian and tapping it can regulate the liver and gallbladder, disperse stagnation, and detoxify the body. Especially when tapping the outer side of the lower limbs with clenched fists, it can promote the circulation of qi and blood, unblock the meridians, and facilitate gallbladder detoxification. This is particularly suitable for patients with liver and gallbladder diseases and can also help with symptoms such as numbness in the lower limbs and poor leg function.

Diseases Treated by the Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian

The acupoints of this meridian are mainly used to relieve diseases in the head, temples, eyes, ears, and mental disorders, as well as other diseases along the meridian pathway. For deficiency syndrome: dizziness, decreased vision, dull skin, and poor physical condition (due to poor rest and high stress), etc. For excess syndrome: migraines, chest distension, bitter taste in the mouth, insomnia, loss of appetite, abnormal blood pressure, etc.

Time for Foot Shao Yang Gallbladder Meridian Health Care

During the Zi (11 pm to 1 am), the qi and blood flow into the Gallbladder Meridian. The Gallbladder Meridian is at its peak, and bile is renewed. The physiological function of the gallbladder is to supply bile to the internal organs and help with the digestion and metabolism of food. If the Gallbladder Meridian is not well cared for, it will affect the flow of qi and blood and disrupt normal metabolism. In theory, it is best to massage the Gallbladder Meridian during the peak time of Zi (11 pm to 1 am). However, most people are already asleep during this time. Therefore, as a secondary option, you can tap or rub the outer side of the hands and feet, the Shao Yang Meridian, when the meridian is at its peak (9 pm to 11 pm).
