Health is Right Beside Us: Small Actions for Unexpected Surprises

1. Squatting

No matter how long you sit on a chair every day, please take a 1-minute break every hour to do the "invisible chair" - squatting. Squatting is mainly for adjusting the "spirit, energy, and mind." When squatting, focus your mind, breathe naturally, squat deeply, evenly, and steadily. This exercise can strengthen the throat, chest, kidneys, and other organs, and tighten the muscles in the abdomen and legs, achieving the purpose of overall body exercise.

2. Soaking Feet before Bed

Soaking your feet in hot water for 20 minutes every day can improve the cardiovascular function of people with heart diseases. Soaking your feet can also accelerate blood circulation, relieve fatigue, and promote sleep. Young people can soak for 15-20 minutes daily, while the elderly can extend it to 20-30 minutes. The water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

3. Resting in Bed after Waking Up

According to incomplete statistics, more than 2 million people die from stroke every year. Among the cases of stroke and sudden death, about 25% occur when they wake up in the morning. Therefore, when you wake up in the morning, don't rush to get up. Instead, lie still in bed for 2-3 minutes before sitting up. After sitting for 2-3 minutes, then stand up. Hong Zhaoguang, the chief health education expert of the Ministry of Health, explained that a rapid change from lying to sitting, or even getting out of bed, can cause a sudden change in blood pressure and lead to acute cerebral ischemia and hypoxia, resulting in a fall.

4. Practice Yoga

A study from West Virginia University in the United States shows that for people with mild or moderate back pain, practicing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week can reduce back pain by 56% and decrease depression index by 60%. If you don't have the conditions to practice yoga, lying down and relaxing, making sure that every part of your body is in contact with the bed surface, can also relieve back pain.
