The Drawbacks of Soy Milk: Who Should Avoid Consumption?

February 24, 2024

Soy milk can improve bone metabolism, prevent osteoporosis, and reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis. However, experts point out that soy milk is not perfect. It contains certain anti-nutritional factors that are not beneficial for the digestion and absorption of nutrients in the body, but rather harmful to health.

Legumes contain inhibitors, saponins, and exogenous agglutinins, which are substances that are not good for the human body. The best way to deal with them is to cook soy milk thoroughly. People who consume soy milk regularly should not forget to supplement their diet with the trace element zinc.

People who should not consume soy milk:

1. Patients with gastritis

Patients with acute gastritis and chronic superficial gastritis should not consume soy products to avoid stimulating excessive gastric acid secretion, worsening their condition, or causing gastrointestinal bloating. Legumes contain certain oligosaccharides that can cause symptoms such as belching, intestinal rumbling, and abdominal distension, so it is best for friends with gastric ulcers to consume less soy products.

2. Patients with renal failure

Patients with renal failure require a low-protein diet, while legumes and their products are rich in protein, which increases the burden on the kidneys and should be avoided. The oxalates in legumes can bind with calcium in the kidneys, leading to the formation of kidney stones and worsening the symptoms. Therefore, patients with kidney stones should also avoid consuming soy products.
