  [What is Ma Huang Tang?]

  Ma Huang Tang is a diaphoretic formula composed of Ma Huang (Ephedra), Xing Ren (Apricot Kernel), Gan Cao (Licorice), and Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig). It is mainly used to induce sweating, relieve asthma, and stop coughing, and is used for superficial cold syndrome.

  It is mainly used to treat symptoms of exterior wind-cold syndrome, such as aversion to cold, fever, headache, no sweating but wheezing, thin white tongue coating, tight and floating pulse, etc;

  It is also used to treat respiratory infections such as epidemic influenza, acute bronchitis, and bronchial asthma, which belong to the syndrome of wind-cold exterior excess, and can be treated with Ma Huang Tang.

  However, when there are clinical symptoms of excessive sweating or physical weakness, the use of Ma Huang Tang should be avoided to prevent excessive sweating and the occurrence of conditions such as physical collapse.

  For patients with arthritis and joint pain, as long as they meet the criteria of exterior cold syndrome and pain without sweating, Ma Huang Tang can also be used for treatment;

  If the patient has sweating, pain, and fever, it is no longer an exterior cold syndrome, and Ma Huang Tang is generally not suitable, otherwise it will make the patient weaker.
