Foot Care: The Importance of Caring for Your Feet for Overall Health and Beauty

February 18, 2024

Every day, we actively engage in beauty routines to whiten our faces, but rarely do we pay attention to the need to care for our feet.

1. Foot Care

The key to maintaining healthy feet is to ensure normal circulation. If your feet are always cold or if your toes and nails appear purplish, it indicates poor circulation in the feet. Pressure, cold, and injury can all cause circulation problems, leading to poor blood flow in the feet.

Pressure can be caused by tight shoes, narrow socks, or tight pant legs, all of which affect blood circulation. Therefore, it is important to wear properly fitting footwear. Shoes should conform to the natural shape of the feet, with about 2 centimeters of space in front of the big toe being ideal.

The right shoes should provide comfort and support when your body weight is placed on your feet. When buying shoes, make sure to try on both feet, as they may not be exactly the same size. When transitioning from high heels to flat shoes, take it slow to allow your feet to adjust. Pay attention to the selection of socks and pants, ensuring both aesthetics and comfort.

To avoid cold-related injuries to the feet, it is important to keep them warm when working in extremely cold conditions outdoors. As soon as you enter a warm space, remove your cold shoes quickly. If your feet are cold, soaking them in warm water (slightly higher than body temperature) can help warm them up. Remember to protect your feet from the cold as "cold starts from the feet."

As summer approaches, it's time for our feet to "show off" in sandals. But before that, some special care is needed: fill a basin with warm water, add a cup of cooked oats and 1/3 cup of salad oil, mix well, soak your feet in it, then use a pumice stone to remove any rough skin from your feet. Dry your feet, and while they are still warm, put on a pair of plastic socks and wear wool socks over them for at least 2 to 3 hours. Repeat this process once a week for several times, and soon you will have beautiful feet ready to show off in sandals.

Any wound on the skin can develop into a serious injury, such as cracking or cutting the toes while trimming nails. Therefore, avoid using razors or other blades to trim nails. When cutting nails, do not dig into the sides, cut them straight, and gently file away any rough edges. Clean your feet daily, and regularly change your socks and shoes to maintain foot hygiene.

2. Foot Beautification

Foot beautification is an important factor in maintaining foot health. It is recommended to perform foot beautification at least once a week, preferably after a bath when the skin is softest.

The tools and products needed for foot beautification include a flat basin, bath soap, a small brush (old toothbrush or nail brush), moisturizer, nail clippers, and a foot file.

The steps for foot beautification are as follows: first, fill the basin with warm water and add a small amount of bath soap, then soak your feet in the warm water, ensuring that the water covers your feet completely. Second, gently wash your feet with the brush, lightly scrubbing the nails with an old toothbrush, ensuring that all parts of the feet are cleaned. Soak for about ten minutes. Third, rinse and dry your feet, then apply moisturizer to the entire foot. Fourth, use the foot file to remove dead skin from the soles and heels, preventing the buildup of calluses. Fifth, trim your nails flat (avoid cutting them too short to protect the toes), and then apply moisturizer evenly to your feet.

Before going to bed, you can apply a thin layer of Vaseline on your feet and wear a pair of white cotton socks. In the morning, your feet will be soft and smooth.
