Mistakes in Health Practices: Belief in Elixirs and Neglecting Sub-Health

February 17, 2024

First, belief in "elixirs" and "magic medicine" to achieve immortality. This is a strange phenomenon in the river of health preservation and a major mistake in health practices.

Second, the imbalance between supplementation and detoxification. People consume nutrients through diet, but not all foods consumed can become the necessary nutrients for the body. Some of it turns into residue, waste, and toxins, known in traditional Chinese medicine as "dregs" and "stagnant qi". These residues must be expelled from the body through the intestines and anus. If the intestines are blocked, the residues will accumulate and hinder the absorption of nutrients. As the ancients said, "When the five flavors enter the mouth, they enter the stomach. If the toxins are not dispersed and accumulate for a long time, it will damage the harmony and give rise to various diseases." This shows that people have long recognized the importance of eliminating residues and maintaining smooth health.

Third, uncontrolled emotions. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the importance of emotions in health preservation. It is a flaw to know about health preservation but let emotions get out of control.

Modern science has proven that tears are not a sign of weakness. Experts have analyzed tears and found that there are three types of tears. The first is protective tears, which are produced to moisturize the eyes and protect the cornea. The second is reflex tears, which are produced in response to direct stimulation from dust, smoke, insects, etc. The third is emotional tears, which are caused by sadness and joy. Therefore, not only women are prone to tears, but men can also shed tears. It is not just emotionally fragile people who cry easily, even people with strong willpower can cry. In reality, women are more likely to cry than men, not because women are emotionally fragile, but because men and women have different endocrine systems. Some believe that the reason why women live longer than men is related to crying, and this is not unreasonable. Research has found that emotional tears are different from other tears. They contain a chemical substance that can increase blood pressure, heart rate, and cause indigestion. Expelling these substances from the body is beneficial to oneself. It has been observed that people who suppress tears for a long time and do not cry have double the chance of falling ill compared to those who cry frequently.

Fourth, neglecting "sub-health". Neglecting the state of sub-health is a major mistake in modern health preservation. What is sub-health? To value it, one must first understand "sub-health".

The incredible human body has astonishing self-regulating abilities, and sub-health is the result of self-adjustment. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the yin and yang in the human body must be maintained in a balanced state for good health. If the balance is disrupted, diseases will occur. If the yin and yang are forcibly maintained in a balanced state, it is called a pseudo-balanced state. Mild disequilibrium is called sub-health.

Fifth, underestimating the avoidance of danger. Health preservation and avoiding danger go hand in hand. In fact, everyone knows the importance of avoiding harm, but the concept is often unclear. This is also a major mistake identified in traditional Chinese medicine health preservation.

With the development of science and technology and the improvement of modernization, people's ability to transform nature is constantly improving. However, some planners lack foresight and are too impatient for quick success, going against the laws of nature and causing environmental pollution. Environmental pollution has become one of the killers threatening human health, mainly including water pollution and air pollution.
