Dietary Therapy for Elderly Constipation: Natural Ways to Improve Digestion

February 14, 2024

Compared to adults, older people are more prone to constipation. As they age, their body functions decline, and their digestive capacity decreases, making constipation more likely. Today, I will introduce some dietary therapy methods for elderly people who are prone to constipation, hoping to help improve this condition.

1. Eating raw radish

I suggest that you let the elderly person eat radish. Eating it raw can moisten the lungs, while eating it cooked can moisturize the intestines. It is a very affordable and good food.

2. Drinking a glass of saltwater in the morning

Every morning on an empty stomach, drink a glass of diluted saltwater or honey water. The saltwater should not be too salty, and it is best to taste the saltiness when drinking it.

3. Drinking rice soup in the morning

Prepare a portion of hot rice soup and add some honey and an egg. After stirring well, wait for fifteen minutes before consuming. Experts recommend taking this constipation dietary therapy method in the morning for better results.

4. Drinking sesame porridge in the morning and evening

Prepare sesame, glutinous rice, and honey. Stir-fry the sesame in a pan until cooked. Cook the glutinous rice with water to make porridge. When it is about 80% cooked, add the prepared sesame and honey. Stir well and cook until done. Eat it in the morning and evening each day.

Many elderly people do not pay much attention to constipation, but regular constipation can be very harmful to the body. If it can be prevented through dietary methods, why not do it!
