Indoor Flowers to Avoid: Potential Health Risks

February 12, 2024

Many people like to grow flowers at home, especially indoors, to refresh their minds and purify the air. It has been proven that many flowers placed indoors do have many benefits for the human body. However, just as there are flowers suitable for indoor planting, there are also flowers that are not suitable for indoor cultivation. We need to pay attention to this, because these flowers can directly harm human health when placed indoors.

Tulip

Tulip flowers contain a toxic alkaloid. Prolonged contact can accelerate hair loss. Cypress plants, if placed indoors in large quantities, emit a strong pine resin odor, affecting appetite and causing nausea in pregnant women.

Night-Blooming Jasmine

It emits a large amount of stimulating particles at night, and prolonged exposure can cause dizziness, depression, and discomfort for patients with hypertension and heart disease, even worsening their condition.

Rose

The strong fragrance it emits can cause chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing in some people.

Frangipani

The secretion of frangipani can cause poisoning, leading to drowsiness and decreased intelligence.

Orchid, Lily

The fragrance of these two flowers can stimulate the nervous system, causing excessive excitement and easily leading to insomnia.

Dieffenbachia

The juice of dieffenbachia leaves is highly toxic. If it comes into contact with the skin, it can cause intense itching. Its fruits are even more toxic and are called "dumb cane." Ingesting them can cause throat and mouth swelling and even damage to the vocal cords.

Redbud

If the pollen it emits contacts with people for a long time, it can trigger asthma or worsen cough symptoms.
