Avoid These Foods to Prevent Food Poisoning

The following three foods are prone to causing food poisoning:

1. Green Beans

Green beans are a very common food that almost everyone has eaten. But when it comes to the possibility of green beans causing food poisoning, some people may not believe it, but it is true.

If green beans are not properly cooked, the saponins they contain can irritate our intestines. In addition, green beans also contain a substance called hemagglutinin, which has a coagulation effect. When these substances are in the gastrointestinal tract, they can easily cause gastrointestinal poisoning.

2. Potatoes

Potatoes are a food that contains a lot of nutrients, but they also contain toxins. However, in this case, we are referring to sprouted potatoes, because the young sprouts of potatoes contain a lot of solanine, which is a highly toxic substance.

In addition, if potatoes are not properly stored, some parts of them will turn black, indicating the presence of powerful toxins. Therefore, these should not be consumed.


3. Cassava

Cassava is a food that contains linamarin toxins in all parts except the root. If consumed accidentally, it can easily cause food poisoning. Moreover, research data has shown that fresh cassava contains a very high level of toxicity.

The correct cooking methods for the above three foods:

1. Green Beans

When cooking green beans, we can choose to wash them first and then pour boiling water into the pot. After it boils, put the green beans in and cook until they are 50% cooked before taking them out.


This way, when stir-frying the green beans, they are less likely to be undercooked.

2. Potatoes

When selecting potatoes, we need to check if there are black spots on them. If there are, do not eat them. Next, check if the potatoes have sprouted. If they have, do not eat them.

Do not cut off the poisonous parts just because you are afraid of wasting. It's not good to get food poisoning from eating potatoes by accident.

3. Cassava

When selecting cassava, do not choose ones that are too fresh or immature. Because when cooking them in soup, the linamarin toxins will seep into the soup, causing food poisoning. Therefore, be very careful when selecting cassava.
