Tips for Mosquito Prevention in the Summer

February 8, 2024

Summer is here, and mosquitoes are beginning to appear again. When bitten by a mosquito in the summer, a large bump will form at the bite site, which becomes increasingly itchy. Many people can't help but scratch, which ultimately damages the skin. However, this does not provide any relief. Therefore, many people try various methods to prevent mosquitoes. Below are some tips for preventing mosquitoes.

1. Use mosquito nets or window screens

Using mosquito nets can not only keep mosquitoes out but also prevent dust accumulation, making it suitable for children. Window screens allow for ventilation and fresh air in the room.

2. Use electric mosquito repellent

Electric mosquito repellents are very effective, and after use, you can even put some essential oil on them to continue repelling mosquitoes.

3. Camphor oil water

Take some camphor oil, lard, or beer, add a small amount of water, and place it in areas where mosquitoes often appear. Mosquitoes are attracted to these scents, but when they come into contact with the water, they get stuck and eventually die.

4. Keep the environment dry

Try to keep the living environment clean and hygienic and avoid having too much water. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in water, so if there is no water nearby, there will be relatively fewer mosquitoes.

5. Garlic

Peel a few garlic cloves and place them in areas where mosquitoes often appear. This can also help repel mosquitoes.

6. Use less scented soap and perfume

Mosquitoes are attracted to floral scents, so the probability of being bitten by mosquitoes increases after using perfumes, cosmetics, creams, and other items with floral fragrances. However, not all scents attract mosquitoes. For example, men's cologne with a sandalwood fragrance can actually repel mosquitoes.
7. Mosquitoes can be eliminated with laundry detergent water

Close the doors and windows, place a basin in front of a window, and add some water mixed with laundry detergent. The next day, there will be some dead mosquitoes in the basin. By using this method every day, there is almost no need to spray insecticides to kill mosquitoes. Moreover, the number of mosquitoes will decrease over time. Mosquitoes cannot thrive in alkaline water, but laundry detergent water contains fragrances, which trick female mosquitoes into thinking that there is food and laying their eggs in it, thereby achieving the goal of mosquito control.
8. Use plant fragrances to repel mosquitoes

Mosquitoes dislike the smell of certain plants. By cleverly utilizing these plants, you can effectively repel mosquitoes. For example, dry orange peels and wrap them in gauze, then place them in corners to both repel mosquitoes and freshen the air. Dropping a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil in an aroma diffuser can also drive away mosquitoes and instantly freshen up the room.
