【Ingredients】

Mahuang, Muxiang, Xingren, Dahuang, equal parts.

【Indications】

Paralysis on the left or right side due to various types of wind, joint pain.

【Dosage】

Take 1 dou (approximately 1.3 liters) of good wine, boil it to obtain 1 liter, and soak it in another wine for frequent consumption.

【Pharmacological effects of Mahuang】

Mahuang has significant therapeutic effects on some external wind-cold symptoms such as chills and fever, headache, body pain, nasal congestion, lack of sweat, and floating and tight pulse. It can promote lung qi, open the pores, dispel wind and cold, and induce sweating to relieve the surface. It is often used together with Guizhi to enhance the sweating and relieving surface effects, such as Mahuang Tang.

Mahuang can be used for cough and asthma caused by wind-cold external constraint and lung qi stagnation. It can promote and ventilate lung qi, dispel wind and cold, and relieve asthma. When combined with Xingren and Gancao, it becomes San Ao Tang, which can enhance the effect of relieving asthma. If there is also internal cold fluid, it can be combined with Xixin, Ganjiang, Banxia, etc. to warm and transform cold fluid and relieve asthma and cough, such as Xiao Qinglong Tang.

If cough and asthma are caused by heat invading the lung, then Mahuang can be combined with Shigao, Xingren, Gancao, etc. to clear the lung and relieve asthma, known as Mahuang Xinggan Tang. This formula is very effective for people with cough and asthma.
