Unlocking the Health Benefits of Soaked Pomelo Peel

January 29, 2024

The whole body of pomelo is a treasure. Eating pomelo not only quenches thirst but also helps with weight loss. Soaking pomelo peel in water and drinking it can prevent lung heat and cough, making it an excellent treatment for chronic cough and cold-induced phlegm cough.

Benefits of drinking soaked pomelo peel

  1. Treats pediatric pneumonia

Pomelo peel can effectively assist in the treatment of pediatric pneumonia. Dry the pomelo peel, cut it into moderate sizes before soaking it in water, and boil it together with clear water. It can help in the recovery process.

  2. Treats chilblains

As we all know, the dry winter weather causes severe loss of moisture from the skin, leading to the appearance of chilblains.

We can drink water soaked with pomelo peel and boil it until it becomes a paste, then apply it to the affected areas of chilblains. If you can persist, it can not only treat chilblains but also effectively prevent their recurrence next year.

  3. Eliminates odor

Pomelo peel is also effective in eliminating odors. Many households put one or two pieces of pomelo peel in the refrigerator, car, or toilet to remove odors and keep the air fresh. This method can also be used for shoes and socks with odor.

  4. Prevents lung heat and cough

Drinking water soaked with pomelo peel regularly can effectively clear lung heat and inflammation in the lungs and trachea, preventing lung heat and dryness, as well as reducing symptoms such as excessive coughing and phlegm.

How to soak pomelo peel in water

  1. Cleaning

Clean the pomelo with clean water, then sprinkle some salt on the surface of the pomelo peel and rub it to remove impurities and open the pores.

  2. Peeling

Use a special plastic pomelo knife or a fruit knife to make 5-8 cuts on the pomelo, then peel off the pomelo peel along the boat-like cuts.

  3. Soaking

Put the peeled pomelo into warm water at around 50-60 degrees Celsius and soak it for 5-10 minutes to open the pores of the pomelo peel again.

  4. Shredding

After removing the pomelo from the water and draining some of the water, use a knife to cut the pomelo peel into thin shreds. Then, mix it with the seedless flesh and put it into a juicer to blend into a paste.

  5. Simmering

After that, put the pomelo paste into a pot with an appropriate amount of water and rock sugar. Simmer it over low heat for 20-30 minutes until the surface becomes sticky and almost dry. Then, remove it, bottle it, seal it, and let it sit for about 7-10 days before drinking it as tea.

  6. Drying

If you don't like the above method of soaking fresh pomelo peel in water, you can wash the pomelo peel and dry it under the sun or in the oven. Then, use it as dried tea, similar to lemon slices, and soak it in water to drink.

Three taboos for drinking soaked pomelo peel

  1. Should not be taken with certain medications

If patients with hyperlipidemia take pomelo tea with lipid-lowering drugs, the lipid-lowering effect will be greatly reduced, and patients may also experience muscle pain and kidney damage.

  2. Women taking contraceptive pills

If women taking contraceptive pills drink water soaked with pomelo peel or consume pomelo directly, the effectiveness of contraception will be reduced because the substances in pomelo can hinder the absorption of contraceptive pills.

  3. People with weak constitution or spleen deficiency and diarrhea

Pomelo has a cold nature, so people with a weak constitution or cold physique should avoid taking pomelo tea or pomelo. Those with weak spleen and diarrhea should also avoid it, as it may cause diarrhea and be detrimental to their health.
